Our neighbourhoods deserve development that is planned, not imposed.

Imagine a 15-storey apartment block on less than one-eighth of an acre, with no corresponding commitment to expand roads, sewer systems, schools, hospitals, parks, or other essential infrastructure.

That is what the Nairobi Development Control Policy 2026 and its accompanying Property Matrix propose for parts of Nairobi.

We believe Nairobi's future should be shaped through sustainable urban planning, environmental protection, and meaningful public participation, not blanket development policies that overlook local realities.

📢 KIWANA MAY 2026 PRESS BRIEFING

Today, KIWANA held a press briefing on our push for sustainable urban development in Kileleshwa Ward.

Our message is clear:
We are not against development; we are advocating for orderly, lawful, infrastructure-sensitive, and sustainable urban growth that protects the long-term liveability of our neighbourhoods.

The briefing highlighted:
1. The importance of lawful public participation
2. The ongoing Rhapta Road zoning case and planning reforms
3. Findings from our May 2026 community survey
4. Concerns around infrastructure strain, flooding, traffic, tree loss, and environmental degradation
5. The need for collaborative engagement between residents, developers, planners, and public institutions

We also reaffirmed our commitment to peaceful and constructive civic engagement and rejected the use of intimidation, malice, or violence in planning disputes.

We appreciate the growing public conversation around sustainable urban planning in Nairobi and look forward to continued dialogue with all stakeholders.
