Yesterday, Shamiri Academy hosted a workshop unpacking what Mental Health looks like in an African context 🌍.

Our keynote speakers and panelists discussed the necessity of increasing care providers, creating care programs that can scale and meet the mental health care demand, and the necessity of combining contextual considerations, cultural wellness practices, and our current mental health care tools in order to create care that is contextualised and effective ⭐️.

Shamiri Academy aims to pioneer mental health learning and training that inspires and equips the next generation of mental health caregivers in Africa. The goal is to address the mental health treatment gap by providing accredited, accessible, and contextualized mental health education 🎓.

For too long, psychology in Africa has meant learning frameworks built elsewhere, translating concepts that were never designed for this context, and fitting lived African experiences into categories that do not quite fit. That is the gap Shamiri Academy is working to close.

On June 4, we are hosting "Reclaiming Psychology: Mental Health in an African Context," a workshop that brings together practitioners, educators, and young people to examine what culturally grounded mental health education looks like and why it matters. The conversation will move across counselling psychology, the relevance of mental health knowledge in everyday African life, and what it takes to build a generation of caregivers who are equipped for the communities they will serve.

Shamiri Academy trains that generation through accredited, accessible, and contextualized mental health courses. This workshop is both an entry point into that work and an introduction to our upcoming Diploma Course, with September enrolment opening soon.

Happening on Thursday, June 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Shamiri Thrive Campus in Nairobi, with online attendance available for those joining remotely.

Technology is not a replacement for human care. It is the infrastructure that allows providers and interventions to function together reliably at scale. Through shamiriAI and shamiriOS, Shamiri is designing integrated systems that support supervision, quality assurance, and continuous learning across real-world delivery environments.

In this webinar, our Tech Team will share the backend stories of how Shamiri is building technology-enabled infrastructure that can support scalable mental health systems across schools and institutions in Kenya.

If you're a technology enthusiast, digital health practitioner, or AI researcher, or just someone interested in how technology and AI can be used to help mental health care scale, this webinar is for you.
