"This was an intelligence-led operation carried out in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG), a multi-agency unit. We managed to thwart the terrorists plan, foiling it at the planning stage. From our initial investigations, the plan was to target densely populated areas in Nairobi during the holy month of Ramadhan. We must remain vigilant, and we appeal to the general public to volunteer information on anything that may threaten the peace should they notice anything suspicious." Gilbert Masengeli, Deputy Inspector-General, National Police Service-Kenya.

MAJOR TERROR ATTACK FOILED!
Plans by the terrorist group Al-Shabaab to kill many Kenyans in Nairobi have once again been foiled by the intelligence agency.

Months of surveillance and covert intelligence gathering on a terror network operating within the Dadaab refugee camps led to the recovery of arms and ammunition including 600 bullets, pistols, grenades, explosives, and drugs all destined for targets in Nairobi.

The terrorists, who had planned to carry out the attack during the month of Ramadhan, were also exploring possibilities of kidnapping foreigners and hijacking vehicles.

Nairobi remains safe because of the brave young men and women in our security agencies who spend long hours tracking down dangerous terrorists and criminals.

WE LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE: SOG TEAM SAYS:
The Kenyan community residing at the tip of Boni Forest reported suspicious objects that resembled IED and other explosives.

Upon receipt of the information, the SOG IJARA camp immediately took up its fighting gear, guns, and their grenades and straight went to the battlefront.

The SOG team secured the place and identified the suspicious items as IED casing containers (old) and water containers pointing to the existence of an old camp.

The SOG fighters cleared the site, destroyed the items, mapped the zone for subsequent patrol visits and reassured the community of their security, and thanked them for their cooperation.

ANOTHER TERRORIST CONVICTED TO SERVE 20 YEARS IN PRISON
Kenya's counterterrorism actors registered another successful win after the conviction of Abdul Najib Mohamed previously George Oluoch Awiti, who was sentenced by Siaya Principal Magistrate to serve 20years in prison for involvement in terrorism activities.

Awiti was convicted on multiple charges, including membership in a terrorist group, collection of terrorism-related information, and possession of articles related to terrorist acts.

The prosecution team presented overwhelming evidence, including testimonies from three key witnesses and forensic and deep analysis of various items found in Awiti's possession.

The evidence presented before the Magistrate included both audio and videos that encouraged and celebrated the killing of innocent civilians and the destruction of properties and incited disobedience against the Kenyan Government. The extremist materials also promised rewards for those engaging in such acts. The evidence was instrumental in securing the conviction.

After reviewing the evidence and submissions, Hon. Simiyu, the principal magistrate, found Awiti guilty on all the counts. He was sentenced to 10 years for membership in a terrorist group, 10 years for collection of information, and 10 years for possession of related articles.

Awiti's conviction was a milestone in the conversion of intelligence into admissible evidence and the Multi-Agency approach in the investigation and prosecution of cases of terrorism and organised crimes.

This case underscores the unwavering commitment of Kenya's security agencies in protecting our nation from the threats of terrorism and other crimes that threaten the very existence of KenyaπŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ.
