UGANDA:
Today I am Standing with Dr. Kizza Besigye in Nakawa Court, Kampala as his trial continues.
Dr. Besigye marked his 69th birthday in detention last week-five months after being unlawfully seized on Kenyan soil where he was to attend the Launch of my book .

Last week I was in Tanzania for Hon.
Tundu Lissu’s trial. Today I’m in Uganda.
The pattern is clear: opposition leaders across East Africa are being systematically silenced!
Our legal team’s Supreme Court victory moved Dr. Besigye from military to civilian custody, but much work remains.
The EAC Treaty explicitly commits all member states to uphold democracy and human rights-these aren’t optional extras.

Senior Counsel Martha Karua in Tanzania to attend Tundu Lissu’s Trial.
His legal team has officially protested the improper virtual court hearing. We join them to demand that Hon. Lissu appear physically in court - transparency and open justice are nonnegotiable principles.

Deeply troubling violations observed:
• Arbitrary detention of Hon. Lissu
• Blocking access to his family and legal team
• Police brutality against relatives, journalists, and CHADEMA supporters attempting to attend court
These actions violate Tanzania’s Constitution and international human rights standards.

We demand:
Immediate release of Hon. Lissu and dropping of all politically motivated charges Restore CHADEMA’s eligibility for October
2025 elections
3 Implement electoral reforms before voting begins
4 Respect for constitutional rights and legal standards
Forward to raise awareness. The struggle for democracy continues!
