ππ°πͺ Kenyaβs Youth Voice for COP30
Our Future. Our Demands. Our Power.
As the world heads to COP30 in Brazil β the first COP on the edge of the Amazon rainforest β Kenyan youth are rising with one unified message:
β¨ Climate justice cannot wait.
Africa is already living the reality of the climate crisis: droughts, deadly floods, rising food insecurity, and shrinking opportunities for young people. Yet climate finance and global commitments continue to fall short.
Today, we stand with millions of young people across Kenya and the continent to call for bold, accountable, people-centered climate action at COP30.
Here are our key demands:
π₯ 1. Real Climate Finance, Not Promises
We demand transparent, accessible, and predictable climate finance that flows directly to youth-led and community initiatives β not through complicated channels that leave grassroots groups behind. Africa cannot keep paying for a crisis we did not create.
π± 2. Localized Climate Adaptation Plans
Climate solutions must reflect the realities of Turkana, Garissa, Taita Taveta, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, and every frontline community. Local voices must shape local plans.
π³οΈ 3. Permanent Youth Representation
Kenyan youth deserve seats β not sidelines. Institutionalize youth representation in county and national climate decision-making spaces.
π‘οΈ 4. Protection for Youth Environmental Defenders
Young climate defenders are safeguarding our future. They must be protected from threats, harassment, and shrinking civic space.
π« 5. Climate-Resilient Schools & Inclusive Education
From heat-resilient classrooms to climate-smart agriculture learning, our education system must prepare children and young people for a changing climate.
π¨ 6. Declare a National Climate Emergency
Kenya must scale up action urgently: strengthen water and food systems, restore ecosystems, and protect the most vulnerable β especially women, children, pastoralists, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.
πΏ 7. Invest in Nature-Based Solutions
Restore forests, wetlands, mangroves, grasslands, and rangelands β creating green jobs.
CLIMATE JUSTICE NOW!
