THE GIRL CHILD HAS A VOICE, AND HER FUTURE IS HERS TO SHAPE!

Hope for Kenya Slums Adolescent Initiative (HKSAI), alongside partners and stakeholders, commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, under the theme “Ending Child Marriages and Investing in Girls’ Rights.”

The celebration brought together students, development partners, representatives from the County and National Governments, and other key stakeholders united by a shared commitment to protecting girls’ rights and creating a future where every girl can thrive.

At the heart of the celebration were the girls themselves. Their voices, experiences, concerns, and aspirations took centre stage as they spoke about the issues affecting them and the changes they want to see in their communities. They reminded us that girls are not merely beneficiaries of change; they are active participants in shaping their own futures. Their message was clear: they have a voice, they have rights, and they are in charge of their future

Ending child marriages requires more than awareness. It calls for collective responsibility, stronger child protection systems, access to quality education, meaningful investment in girls’ health and well-being, and communities that empower girls to make informed decisions about their lives.

As HKSAI, we believe every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, lead, and reach her full potential without the threat of child marriage or discrimination. Investing in girls’ rights today means building safer, healthier, and more equitable communities for generations to come.

As we reflect on this important day, let us move beyond the celebration and turn our shared commitments into meaningful action.

When we invest in girls, we invest in the future. Let every girl’s voice count. Let every girl’s rights be protected. Let every girl thrive!

The D-Day is on! 🎉
HKSAI and its partners held the final planning meeting ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, set for tomorrow, 10th October, at the Multipurpose Hall in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to finalize preparations, strengthen collaboration, and ensure a meaningful celebration that amplifies girls’ voices, champions their rights, and promotes equal opportunities for every girl to thrive.

Together, we are building a future where every girl is heard, protected, empowered, and given the opportunity to reach her full potential.

Strengthening Partnerships, Advancing Hope!

Today, HKSAI Uasin Gishu had the privilege of hosting SOS Children’s Villages for an insightful engagement on our work, programs, advocacy efforts and our vision for stronger, healthier and empowered communities.

Our discussions explored HKSAI’s work across education, mental health, SRHR, community development, economic empowerment and advocacy, including scholarship support for vulnerable adolescents, school-based SRHR and guidance and counselling program, skills training at our Training Centre, sanitary pad support, and initiatives that empower women and young people to become more self-reliant.

We also reflected on opportunities to strengthen youth engagement around mental health, su***de prevention and reproductive health. Together, we are exploring innovative approaches such as a youth-friendly centre and youth-led podcast where young people can discuss issues that matter to them in safe, relatable and accessible spaces.

At HKSAI, we believe meaningful change requires strong partnerships, community voices and continued advocacy. As a community watchdog, we continue to engage government and other stakeholders through dialogue, petitions, policy engagement and partnerships to champion better services and development for communities.

🌸 We also look forward to welcoming SOS Children’s Village and other partners to the International Day of the Girl Child celebration on 10th October at the Multipurpose Hall, Uasin Gishu County.

Together, we can create spaces where every girl and young person is heard, supported and empowered to thrive.

Proud moment for the HKSAI family! 🎉

Our Executive Director, Melvine Ouyo, received a Distinguished Award as a Presenter at the Conference in Baltimore! 🏆

She was honored by the KNAA for her presentation, "The Role of Nurses in Health Financing Advocacy: Nurses as Policy Influencers."

This recognition reflects what we stand for at HKSAI. We work with adolescents and youth in Kibera, Uasin Gishu, and beyond through youth empowerment, education support, and community development, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are central to that work. When young people have accurate information, life skills, and access to the services they need, they can make informed choices, stay in school, and shape their own futures.

Melvine's advocacy brings those realities to the tables where health policy and financing decisions are made. As a medical practitioner and a champion for , she shows what it looks like to turn experience into impact. She has gone above and beyond, and her passion and commitment inspire our team and the communities we serve every day.

Young people deserve safe spaces to ask questions, access accurate information, and make informed choices about their health and future.

Through a collaborative mentorship session at Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI), HKSAI, in partnership with Eddah Reds and Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK), engaged students on mental health and psychosocial well-being, sexual and reproductive health, STI and HIV prevention, safe sexual practices, and the importance of regular HIV testing.

The session also provided HIV testing and counselling services, with encouraging voluntary participation from students seeking information and support.

At HKSAI, we believe that empowering young people with knowledge, mentorship and accessible services is a powerful step towards healthier, more informed and resilient communities.

Together, we continue to create spaces where young people can learn, speak openly and thrive.
