Every child deserves a second chance, a safe home, and the opportunity to thrive.

Through rehabilitation, counselling, family tracing, and community collaboration, Undugu Society of Kenya successfully supported the reunification of a child with his family after a period of living on the streets. Today, he is back home, reconnecting with loved ones and preparing to continue his education.

This success story reminds us that with care, understanding, and support, families can heal and children can reclaim their future.

Undugu Society of Kenya was proud to participate in the Social Innovation Pavilion Summit, which brought together more than 100 civil society organizations from across Africa to discuss governance, security, healthcare, artificial intelligence, and the future of democratic institutions on the continent.

Our Executive Director Eric Mukoya joined fellow leaders and stakeholders in shaping a white paper containing over 60 action points on strengthening the rule of law, advancing maternal and child health, promoting international solidarity, and building democratic systems grounded in African realities and experiences.

On the sidelines of the summit, we showcased our grassroots work with street-connected children, youth, women, and vulnerable communities, including our Village Saving and Loaning Associations, Community Child Rights Clubs, and the Street Connected Youth Association model focused on rehabilitation and reintegration.

We were also honoured to engage with Kenya’s Principal Secretary to Foreign Affairs Dr. Korir Sing’Oei and the French Minister responsible for Francophonie, International Partnerships, and French Nationals Abroad, ÉlĂ©onore Caroit.who visited our exhibition to learn more about our impact and community-driven empowerment initiatives.

Today, as we celebrate mothers across the world, we also honour the extraordinary women within the street-connected communities we serve through Undugu Society of Kenya.

Behind every child fighting for a better future is often a mother carrying unimaginable burdens with remarkable strength. Some have endured poverty, displacement, violence, rejection, and long nights of uncertainty — yet they continue to rise every day with courage, resilience, and love for their children.

We celebrate the mothers rebuilding their lives, the grandmothers raising children with limited means, the young mothers choosing hope over despair, and the women who open their hearts to protect and nurture vulnerable children in our communities. Your strength inspires us. Your resilience reminds us why this work matters.

At USK, we believe every mother deserves dignity, support, opportunity, and a safe environment where her children can thrive. Today we stand with you, celebrate you, and reaffirm our commitment to walking this journey together.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers and caregivers in our street-connected communities. Your love continues to transform lives and shape stronger communities for generations to come.

Highlights from Undugu Society’s commemoration of the Blue Umbrella Day Campaign.

Under this year’s theme, “Break the Silence, Protect Boys and Strengthen Families,” the event brought together voices committed to confronting stigma, supporting survivors, and strengthening community and family responses to sexual and gender-based violence against boys.

The call is clear: speak up, act, and protect.

As part of our continued efforts to raise awareness, for the camapaign, we are amplifying an urgent but often overlooked reality: sexual and gender-based violence against boys.

Too many cases go unreported, silenced by stigma, fear, and harmful cultural norms that discourage boys from speaking out.

This year’s theme, “Break the Silence, Protect Boys and Strengthen Families,” is a call to action. We must build safe, supportive environments at home and within our communities, because protection starts where children should feel safest.

Undugu Society of Kenya was in Kanamai, Kilifi County, to mark this year’s Blue Umbrella Day, amplifying the urgent call to address sexual and gender-based violence against boys.

Despite the growing concern, many cases remain unreported due to stigma, fear, and deeply rooted cultural attitudes that silence survivors. This year’s theme, “Break the Silence, Protect Boys and Strengthen Families,” underscores the need for stronger family and community support systems, especially as many of these violations occur within the home.

The commemoration in Kanamai was marked by powerful, creative expressions from children, who used poetry, music, and art to share their experiences and advocate for safer spaces. Parents also made a strong declaration committing to safeguard the boy child against any form of violation and exploitation.

Undugu Society is calling for stronger child protection systems, improved data collection, and the full implementation of Article 53 of the Constitution to ensure every child is protected from harm.
