In Migori County, 58% of women have experienced physical or sexual violence—often by those closest to them. But community paralegal Leah Amoke, supported by CMMB and the Kenya Red Cross, is fighting back. Since 2023, she has handled 28 SGBV cases, secured a landmark 60-year prison sentence for a perpetrator, and helped a young mother return to school after defilement.

Her work proves that grassroots action, backed by the Global Fund and partners like the Paralegal Society of Kenya, can shatter stigma and deliver real justice.

Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week! ❤️🌍

This week, we join the world in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) under the powerful theme: "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works."

For us at CMMB Kenya, this theme is at the heart of everything we do. We know that a healthy start begins with the very first embrace and the first nourishment. Breast milk isn't just food; it's a baby's first vaccine, a source of ideal nutrition, and a foundation for healthy growth and development.

Our commitment to supporting mothers and children doesn't stop there. Through our Maternal and Child Health programming, we provide comprehensive care from conception to a child’s fifth birthday. This includes:

🏥 Strengthening Health Systems: Building and equipping Newborn Units and Maternity Wings (like those in Kitui County and Ikanga Hospital) to ensure safe deliveries and specialized care for premature and low-birth-weight babies.

🤱 Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC): Creating dedicated spaces and training health workers to support skin-to-skin contact and exclusive breastfeeding for fragile newborns, giving them a fighting chance.

Why does this matter?
Because when a mother is supported—with the right nutrition, information, and a warm chain of support—she can give her baby the best possible start. When we strengthen what works, we build healthier families and stronger communities.

Bringing life-saving care closer to home 💙
Last week, CMMB Kenya, in partnership with the Kitui County Ministry of Health & Sanitation, took a vital step toward better health for communities in Kitui rural and Mwingi West sub-counties.

We held a free cervical cancer screening and treatment outreach in some of the hardest-to-reach areas—because every woman deserves access to quality healthcare, no matter where she lives.

Here’s what we achieved together:
🎗️ 481 women screened for HPV through self-sampling
🎗️ 321 women received Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE)
🎗️ 83 women underwent colposcopy for further assessment
🎗️ 68 women received timely treatment for precancerous cervical lesions
💉 101 girls protected through HPV vaccination
👨 54 men screened through Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) testing

Every number represents a person who took a courageous step toward better health—a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife, or a father who now has a greater chance of living a healthier future.

By expanding access to innovative screening methods such as HPV self-sampling, strengthening early diagnosis, and ensuring timely treatment, we are helping turn the vision of a cervical cancer-free generation into reality.
Together, we are proving that when quality healthcare is brought closer to communities, lives are saved.

CMMB Kenya at the International AIDS Conference 2026!

The global conversation on ending HIV is evolving, and CMMB Kenya is proud to be part of it.

We are honored to participate in AIDS 2026 – the 26th International AIDS Conference, the world's largest gathering of researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, advocates, community organizations, and people living with HIV committed to shaping the future of the global HIV response.

Under this year's theme, "Rethink. Rebuild. Rise.", CMMB Kenya joins the global community in advancing evidence-based, rights-centered, and community-driven solutions that leave no one behind.

At the conference, our Executive Director & CEO Dr. James Kisia and Project Coordinator Dennis Menya will represent CMMB Kenya, with Dennis presenting our accepted poster:

"Healing Where Harm Occurs: Community Trauma Response Hubs Improving Psychosocial Support for Child Sexual Gender-Based Violence Survivors in Siaya, Kenya."

The abstract highlights how community-led trauma response hubs, psychosocial support groups, and local counseling solutions are improving access to quality psychosocial care for child survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in resource-constrained settings, while promoting healing, empowerment, and reintegration.

Our participation also reflects CMMB Kenya's broader commitment to creating HIV-free communities through a comprehensive, rights-based approach that reaches the most vulnerable populations, including fisherfolk communities and pregnant and lactating mothers.

Since 2018, our HIV programme has strengthened community systems, expanded access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment, psychosocial support, and addressed the human rights and gender-based violence barriers that prevent people from accessing lifesaving services.

We look forward to learning, fostering new partnerships, and contributing to global conversations that strengthen resilient, people-centered health systems.
