The growing success of zero-waste event models in Kenya continues to demonstrate what is possible through collaboration and intentional action.

KEPRO was proud to serve as the sustainability partner at the 10th edition of the Nairobi Street Food Festival, where we worked together to advance waste segregation at source and drive public sensitization on responsible waste management. A key highlight of this edition was the distribution of free compost derived from food waste collected during the previous festival, closing the loop in a truly circular way. In addition, all waste generated during the event was successfully sorted and channeled to recyclers, reinforcing practical pathways for sustainable waste recovery.

The festival also featured sustainability champions from Dandora showcasing innovative products made from recycled glass, paper, and plastic, powerfully demonstrating that waste is not an end, but a resource.

This milestone reflects the growing momentum of zero-waste events in Kenya, and we are proud to be part of a movement that is turning ambition into measurable impact.

Consumer‑Led Transformation ( ) initiative was all about turning policy into practical, people‑centered action.

Our team engaged consumers through hands‑on demonstrations of waste segregation, breaking it down to the basics, separating organic waste from non‑organic, recoverable materials. This practical approach clearly illustrated why segregation at source is not just a best practice, but a critical enabler of efficient, sustainable waste management and value creation across the waste ecosystem.

Equally important was strengthening collaboration along the value chain. We empowered waste collectors to take on an educational role with their clients, positioning them as key change agents in driving behavioral change at the household and consumer level.

The presence and support of county and city officials further reinforced collective ownership of the agenda, reaffirming the county’s commitment to implementing the Sustainable Waste Management Act, 2024.

This day highlighted what is possible when policy, consumers, waste actors, and government work together, laying the groundwork for cleaner cities, stronger livelihoods, and a more circular economy.

Our Regional Awareness Drive in Uasin Gishu County underscored the power of collaboration across the waste management value chain.

We convened key actors, including waste collectors, aggregators, and recyclers, alongside Eldoret City and County officials for a robust and forward‑looking dialogue on sustainable waste management and the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.

The conversations highlighted waste segregation at source as a critical systemic solution, one that not only enables efficient waste management but also unlocks meaningful value addition across all waste fractions. The response from leadership was resoundingly positive. City and county officials demonstrated strong commitment and enthusiasm to work hand in hand with waste‑sector actors, reinforcing a shared vision for a cleaner, more sustainable Eldoret City.

This engagement affirmed that when policy, government, and practitioners align, impactful and scalable solutions become possible.

Driving impact where it matters most.

KEPRO recently engaged with the Eldoret Waste Pickers Association at the Kipkenyo Dumpsite, recognizing the vital role waste pickers play at the frontline of Kenya’s waste management system.

This engagement went beyond a site visit. It was an opportunity to strengthen collaboration through hands-on training, provision of essential PPE, and meaningful dialogue grounded in shared learning and mutual respect.

Waste pickers remain a critical yet often under-recognized pillar of the circular economy. Investing in their safety, capacity, and dignity is fundamental to building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable waste management ecosystem.
