On Saturday, 23rd August 2025, the Lions and Leo Club of Masaku Pioneer hosted District Governor Ambassador Lion Simon Njoroge, accompanied by First Lady Lion Irene Njoroge and their son Leo Bedan Njoroge, at the Machakos Girls Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. The visit brought together 13 Lions and 17 Leos from the club.

The day’s program commenced with the official induction of 2 Lions and 7 Leos, presided over by DG Lion Simon Njoroge. This was followed by a guided tour of the Masaku Pioneer Library, one of the club’s signature projects, officially inaugurated on 27th February 2021 by then District Governor Eng. Josphat Muthumbi.

To conclude the visit, the club presented a donation to the institution, consisting of daily supplies, foodstuffs, snacks, clothing, shoes, wool and crochet materials, and books for the established library. These contributions made a direct impact on 54 children (boys and girls) and 7 staff members, reaffirming the club’s commitment to service and community empowerment.

Key Highlights

Attendance: 7 Lions, 5 Leos, 4 Cubs, and 1 volunteer.

Facility Overview: Mji wa Huruma accommodates 43 elderly residents and is managed by a dedicated team of 10 staff members.

Challenges: An estimated 80% of the residents have been abandoned, with the facility focusing on holistic care, emotional support, and counseling.

Daily Activities: Residents actively participate in crafts, chores, and physical exercises, all aimed at promoting mental and physical well-being.

Memorable Insight: A Cub’s inquisitive question sparked a conversation on how knitting and crafting stimulate memory retention — a realization that may shape future service initiatives.

Club members generously donated essential items and food supplies valued at Ksh 50,000, took time to tour the facility, and engaged warmly with the residents. In her remarks, Lion Nancy extended her gratitude to the visiting team, stating: “There are still people in Kenya who care.”

This visit was a powerful and compassionate finale to the Lionistic year, perfectly encapsulating the spirit of service embodied in the club’s motto:

“Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion!” 🦁

To mark the conclusion of the 2024/2025 Lionistic year, the Lions and Leo Club of Masaku Pioneer carried out a heartfelt visit to Mji wa Huruma in Runda — a residential facility dedicated to the care of abandoned elderly individuals.

Reflecting on an Impactful Lionistic Year – 2024/2025

Half of our cabinet members joined the club in the same year and courageously stepped straight into leadership roles. As each of them shared, the journey has been nothing short of impactful and inspiring.

Being a Lion means serving with one heart—changing lives, one act at a time.

Throughout the 2024/2025 Lionistic year, our club remained steadfast in its mission through various service activities, including:

Neighborhood improvement projects

Environmental and conservation initiatives

Educational and literacy outreach

Support for the blind and hearing-impaired

Pediatric cancer aid

Hunger relief programs

We are proud to report our achievements:

6 new Lions joined the club

33 service activities conducted

409 volunteers engaged

2,486 total volunteer hours logged

$4,716 raised

12,828 people served

In the words of our outgoing Vice President and incoming President for 2025/2026:
“If you want to walk far, walk together.”

It has been a true honor to serve. Let’s take Lions Club of Masaku Pioneer to even greater heights! 🌟

As my term as President of Lions Club Masaku Pioneer comes to a close, I am filled with immense gratitude serving in this role. It has been an honor and I am deeply thankful to my fellow Lions, District 411A leadership, various communities and all who supported our mission of service.

This year July 2024 to June 2025, we accomplished so much together including:-
Successful fundraising that achieved 522% of external donations against budget, driving our impactful monthly club service activities.
Free Eye Camp for over 5600 children of Olympic Primary School in Nairobi, which also delivered corrective eye procedures and spectacles at no costs to the learners/beneficiaries.
Established a fully functional Library for the children, youth and the community of Lindi Ward in Kibera
Super Successful “Donate a Book” campaign who's ite overwhelming positive response fully stocked our launched new Kibera Library with learning material.
Held a successful & insightful webinar on the Role of Nutrition in Diabetes Mellitus Care & Prevention that attracted a record 660 participants.
Amongst many other fulfilling services activities.
A special thanks to my dedicated board members, club members and volunteers, your passion and hard work filled this year with unforgettable memories for each life that we touched. To our partners, donors and friends of the club, your generosity amplified our impact, I will forever be grateful.

As I pass the torch to the next leadership, I am confident that Lions Club of Masaku Pioneer will continue to shine brighter. The foundation we’ve built will inspire even greater service in the years to come.

As the outgoing Vice President, I look back with pride and gratitude at all we accomplished together as Lions. I am truly proud of the impact we’ve made and the lives we’ve touched — bringing smiles, sharing love, and making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.

This journey beautifully reflects the wisdom of the African proverb: “If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together.”

Every achievement was possible because of the dedication, passion, and teamwork of our Lions — individuals who consistently rose to the occasion and answered the call to serve.

As we look ahead, may we continue this spirit of service, building on what we’ve done and striving for even more. Together, we can keep making a positive impact, one act of service at a time.

On Saturday afternoon 24th May 2025, members of Lions and Leo club of Masaku Pioneer and friends of the club officially launched the Huitfambo library in Lindi world Kibera led by G*T leader Lion Shehzan Luhar.

This sanctuary for learning, hub for creativity and a stepping stone to greatness for the children, youth and community of Kibera was established and fully stocked by the Lions Club of Masaku Pioneer in partnership with various donors and the Huitfambo group known for their youth mentorship through dance.

What began as a Christmas promise to uplift literacy via donation of books by Lion Shehzan has boldly transformed and we proudly open the doors of a library to the public.

We extend our deepest gratitude to
• Lion Shehzan and Lion Mizban.
• 16 members of Lions and Leo family of Masaku Pioneer, Nairobi Karen, Nairobi Riverside and Mount Kenya University.
• 11 Kibera community members present.
• Huitfambo Team.
• Various donors and local leaders.

Let this library remind us that education is the great equalizer. Together we enter a new chapter for Lindi Ward one where every mind has the tools to thrive.

✨ Reflecting on a Remarkable Year ✨

Serving as the Club Secretary for Lions Club Masaku Pioneer 2024/2025 has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

From the moment I joined Lionism, I embraced the opportunity to take on a leadership role and have grown both personally and professionally.

In this position, I’ve expanded my skill set — learning to effectively navigate tools such as the Lion Portal, tutorial platforms, Canva, note-taking applications, and many others that enhance productivity and engagement.

This journey has reinforced the importance of staying open-minded, adaptable, and willing to step into new challenges. And most importantly, I’ve learned that within the Lions community, there is always support and collaboration when you need it.

Looking forward to continued growth and making an even greater impact in the year ahead.
