Yesterday, the Kenya Red Cross formalized a new partnership with Blue Sky Rescue (BSR) China, strengthening collaboration in Urban Search and Rescue and Swift Water Rescue.

The partnership will enhance the preparedness and capabilities of our Search and Rescue teams to respond more effectively to emergencies in Kenya and beyond.

Following the signing, we officially opened a joint Search and Rescue Coordination Office at the Kenya Red Cross Headquarters.

The facility will serve as a hub for coordinating joint operations, training and knowledge exchange, while also housing specialized search and rescue equipment to support rapid emergency response.

Historic milestone for emergency healthcare in Kenya.

President William Ruto has officially launched the SHA National Ambulance Dispatch Center (NADC) at SHA headquarters, Kenya’s first centralised, tech-driven ambulance dispatch and coordination system, and only the second of its kind in Africa.

Kenya Red Cross and , represented by Secretary-General Dr. Ahmed Idris, is proud to be a key partner in this journey.

With support from NCBA, ABSA, KCB and Equity Bank, Kenya Red Cross supported SHA in the design, construction and equipping of the dispatch center.

Kenya Red Cross also led the training of dispatch personnel in emergency response and clinical triage, backed by our over 300,000+ volunteer network nationwide.

Meeting with Ambassador Ali Daud Mohamed – Special Envoy for Climate Change

Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris and IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain held a strategic meeting with Ambassador Ali Daud Mohamed, Kenya’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, to strengthen collaboration on climate action and resilience.

Discussions focused on advancing food security through climate resilience, recognizing that climate adaptation is essential to protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening livelihoods, and building long-term resilience.

The leaders also explored opportunities to scale up clean cooking solutions by leveraging the vast Red Cross volunteer network to promote community awareness, drive household adoption of clean energy technologies, and support behaviour change that reduces emissions, protects forests, improves health outcomes, and enhances resilience.

The meeting further emphasized the importance of strengthening locally led anticipatory action by enabling communities to prepare for and respond to climate-related shocks before they escalate into humanitarian crises.

The leaders encouraged African National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to actively engage with climate adaptation financing mechanisms to unlock greater investment in community-led resilience initiatives and ensure climate finance reaches the most vulnerable communities across Africa.

The discussions explored the intersection between humanitarian action, economic resilience and national development planning, with particular emphasis on disaster risk management.

The meeting underscored the importance of ensuring that disaster preparedness and response planning does not discriminate on the basis of economic capability, recognizing that vulnerable populations often face disproportionate risks regardless of their economic status.
