Jaswant Singh, a popular Canadian-Sikh artist, lived many years in Kenya in the 1990s as a professional painter and graphic designer, during which time he got introduced to a private audience to then President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi (1924-2020) who was impressed by his skills - and who he referred to him as a 'Kenyan Sikh' and not as an 'Indian Sikh'.

President Moi complimented Jaswant Singh as the first artist to paint his age. Pleased with his personality, approach and work, the President accorded him with the citizenship of Kenya and Kenyan passport. Moi clearly wanted Kenya to own his talent, and deservedly so.

An entire chapter on how Jaswant Singh met Moi and painted his portrait is set to feature in his biography 'A Bubble in the Rain' which will be launched later this year.
