Participating in the Data for Governance Alliance Continental Convening was an enriching opportunity to engage with leaders, civil society actors, and institutions committed to advancing democracy, governance, and human rights across Africa.
Over several days, leaders, civil society actors, and continental institutions engaged in meaningful conversations on democracy, governance, human rights, and the role of data in shaping advocacy and policy.
A key takeaway for AWGN was the value of evidence-based advocacy. Platforms such as Afrobarometer and AfricanLII continue to demonstrate how data and accessible legal information can strengthen accountability, inform policy, and empower civil society across the continent.
It was also encouraging to reflect on the role of continental bodies such as the African Union and ECOSOCC in creating spaces for civil society engagement and ensuring that citizen voices contribute meaningfully to Africa’s governance agenda.
