Through Civic Voices, we continue to champion meaningful civic engagement among young people and women living in informal communities by creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and active participation in civic spaces.

As part of this initiative, we have established Civic Hubs; safe and inclusive spaces where youth can come together to openly discuss issues affecting their communities, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore how they can actively participate in civic processes and decision-making.

These conversations are helping nurture a generation of active citizens who understand the power of their voices and their role in shaping accountable, inclusive, and responsive communities. By empowering communities with knowledge and safe spaces for engagement, we are strengthening connections, inspiring action, and encouraging collective responsibility for social change.

This project is supported by the Irish Embassy in Kenya

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
As we continue to spread awareness, remember that you are allowed to feel every emotion, the sadness, anger, frustration and joy.
You matter, and it’s okay to not be okay. Give yourself grace, take the time you need, and don’t be afraid to reach out. Your feelings are valid, and you don’t have to carry them alone.
One step at a time, one day at a time you deserve care, understanding, and support.

Empowering Young Mothers to Stand Against GBV

Circles of Hope CBO had the privilege of facilitating a Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) sensitization dialogue with young teen mothers at Reuben Centre in Mukuru kwa Reuben.

The session created a safe and supportive space where participants learned about the different forms of GBV, how to recognize warning signs of abuse, and the importance of speaking out and seeking help.
We also explored the impact of violence on families and children, while encouraging healthy relationships and informed decision-making.

A key highlight was empowering young mothers through discussions on financial independence, confidence building, and skills development which are critical tools in reducing vulnerability to abuse and building stronger futures.

We are especially grateful to Reuben Centre for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to serve and engage with the community. Your partnership continues to make a meaningful difference.

Together, we can break the cycle of violence and build safer, more empowered communities.

Stronger Communities Start with Open Conversations

On 11th March 2026, Circles of Hope CBO had the honor of facilitating a Community Engagement Forum on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Mukuru, held at Reuben Centre.

The forum brought together diverse community members: youth, adults, and local stakeholders; for an open and impactful dialogue on the realities of SGBV.
Together, we explored its various forms, the root causes within informal settlements, and the barriers that often prevent survivors from speaking out.

Through honest conversations, participants highlighted critical challenges including stigma, underreporting, limited awareness, economic vulnerability, and the need for more inclusive engagement especially involving men and young people.
The session also emphasized the importance of community-driven solutions, stronger partnerships with institutions, and creating safe spaces for dialogue and support.

We are deeply grateful to Reuben Centre for believing in us and giving us the opportunity to serve and engage the Mukuru community through this important forum. Your trust and partnership continue to drive meaningful change.

We remain committed to strengthening awareness, empowering communities, and working collaboratively to prevent SGBV and support survivors.
Together, we can break the silence and build safer communities for all.
