Day Three of the Kisumu Feminist Leadership Academy focused on wellbeing, connection, and celebrating the community we have built together.

After days of learning and reflection, participants took time to pause and pour into themselves and one another. Through conversations on wellbeing and wellness, we reflected on the importance of caring for ourselves as we continue the work of building and sustaining feminist movements.

The day was filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, warm hugs, thoughtful gift exchanges, and moments of joy that reminded us of the power of community and collective care.

As we closed the Academy, we left with new friendships, stronger connections, and renewed energy to continue leading, organizing, and supporting one another.

It's really heartbreaking seeing the CCTV footage and learning of the tragic loss of young lives. We stand in solidarity with the families, friends, students, and the entire school community during this difficult time.

As we grieve this loss, we call for truth, accountability, and justice. Every learner deserves to study in a safe and supportive environment where their well-being and rights are protected.

Our thoughts remain with all those affected as they seek answers, healing, and justice.

Day One of Kisumu Feminist Leadership Academy was vibrant, interactive, and filled with powerful conversations, shared learning, and collective reflection. ✨

Participants explored the changing funding landscape and unpacked what global funding shifts mean for feminist movements and organizing today. Through real-life examples, interactive representations, and shared experiences, the sessions brought to life the opportunities and challenges that movements face in navigating evolving donor priorities.

The conversations continued with a deep dive into alternative resource mobilization, where participants explored community philanthropy, local resource mobilization, and sustainable approaches to strengthening movements beyond donor funding.

The day concluded with group work and case studies that encouraged participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and develop practical solutions for building resilient, community-driven feminist movements.

In many cases of sexual violence and femicide, the danger does not come from strangers but from people within close circles, partners, family members, and trusted individuals, making up a significant majority of cases. This reality shows how deeply embedded and often hidden this violence can be, sustained by silence, denial, and the protection of perpetrators within homes and communities. Instead of accountability being directed where it belongs, survivors are too often blamed for what they wore, where they went, or who they trusted. Femicide is not caused by women’s actions but by perpetrators and the systems that continue to shield them. Until that accountability shifts, women, girls, and children will remain unsafe in spaces that are meant to protect them.

Day 2 of the Feminist Leadership Academy in Kisumu held space for the hard but necessary conversations.

Across the world, feminist movements are facing increasing pushback through misinformation, online harassment, shrinking civic spaces, defunding, attacks on bodily autonomy, and the continued discrediting of activists and community organizers. Yet, even in the midst of exhaustion, fear, burnout, and uncertainty, feminists continue to show up, organize, care, resist, and imagine new possibilities.

Today reminded us that sustainability within movements is not a luxury, it is necessary. Rest, collective care, solidarity, and community are political acts too. ✨ Womankind WorldwideUrgent Action Fund-AfricaAmerican Jewish World Service - AJWS

Periods are not dirty. They are not a secret. They are not something to whisper about.

Today , World Menstrual Hygiene Day , we choose to say it out loud.

🩸 1 in 5 girls misses school because of their period.
🩸 Millions still lack access to safe, affordable menstrual products.
🩸 Shame and stigma cost us more than we think.

Unlearning starts here. Normalising the conversation starts now.

Let's talk about it. Share this. Break the silence.
