Our flagship program, PROMPTS, was recently featured by The Borgen Project for its impact within the maternal health sector.

The story highlights PROMPTS’ impact across Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria, including how we use AI to identify high-risk questions on the platform. It showcases how this helps our Helpdesk team prioritize urgent messages, respond faster, and connect mothers to care when it matters most.

We’re proud to see this work recognized.

In Kilifi County Government, digital tools are strengthening maternal and newborn health by connecting mothers to timely information, equipping health workers to manage emergencies and helping county teams act on real-time data.

Since 2022, more than 160,000 women in Kilifi have enrolled in PROMPTS, Jacaranda Health’s AI-powered two-way SMS platform, showing that more mothers are actively seeking support during pregnancy and after delivery.

At the same time, 176 county health stakeholders have been onboarded onto the PULSE dashboard, a co-designed decision-making tool. PULSE captures data on the uptake, provision, and quality of maternal health services in public facilities enabling teams to identify high-burden issues faster and target support where it is needed most. These insights have informed EmONC MENTORS training on complications such as postpartum haemorrhage, neonatal sepsis and birth asphyxia.

The results are encouraging.

Between 2022 and 2025, reported antepartum haemorrhage cases declined by approximately 35%, while obstructed labour cases reduced by nearly 28%.

Digital health continues to deliver the greatest value when it is embedded within government systems, aligned with county priorities and used to strengthen routine care, not implemented as a standalone intervention.

We’re proud to be a finalist in Solve - MIT 10th Anniversary Global Challenge! 🌍

This reflects the dedication of our teams across Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria to improve maternal and newborn health. Specifically, this prize would support PROMPTS, our two-way SMS platform, that equips mothers with timely health information, connects them to care, and enables them to share feedback on the quality of care they receive.

This week Jacaranda Health team will be attending the Deep Learning Indaba x Kenya happening in Nairobi.

Our team, Anita Kahenya, Faith Rutto and Amanda Baatyo will be learning from Africa’s AI community, sharing lessons from developing AI for maternal and newborn health, and exploring how locally grounded, responsible technology can strengthen health systems at scale. Faith will be on a judging panel on 22nd July at 2:30 pm.

We look forward to connecting with fellow innovators and contributing to the conversation on building AI that responds to Africa’s health systems and lived realities.

We’re pleased to see the launch of PROMPTS Ghana featured by Business Ghana. The article highlights the contribution of PROMPTS, popularly known as Nurse Mary, to Ghana’s growing digital health ecosystem.
Through the Ghana Helpdesk Service, PROMPTS complements existing maternal health services by enabling mothers and healthcare workers in the Greater Accra Region to remain connected beyond routine facility visits.
This continuous communication helps mothers access timely guidance and gives healthcare workers another channel to provide ongoing support throughout the maternal health journey.
