Yesterday, we conducted a pre-visit to Kawangware Initiative Centre in Kawangware, 56 Area.
Kawangware Initiative Centre is a home that provides orphaned and homeless children with a loving and supportive environment. The centre offers education, empowerment programmes, and basic necessities to help create a brighter future for the children and break the cycle of poverty.
The centre currently has a population of 57 children aged between 3 and 12 years. With the help of Shosho Jane, their caregiver, the children are well cared for and provided with a safe and supportive environment in which they can grow and develop.
The centre receives financial support from its leaders, the local church, community members, and well-wishers. This support helps meet the children’s basic needs, including food, healthcare, clothing, and education.
The following key needs were identified:
1. Porridge – the children particularly enjoy porridge.
2. Diapers – small and medium sizes.
3. Kamande/Yellow beans.
4. Flour.
5. Firewood.
6. Bathing soap, detergents, and petroleum jelly.
7. Salt and sugar.
Shosho Jane warmly welcomed us to visit the home and spend time with the children. The pre-visit provided us with a better understanding of the centre, the children’s needs, and the kind of support that would make a meaningful difference to their lives.
