Day 1 of the WOAH Regional Technical Workshop in Conakry, Guinea aimed at strengthening One Health Implementation under the framework of the Health Security Programme in West and Central Africa - https://rr-africa.woah.org/en/projects/hesp-project-en/ (HeSP), which is funded by the World Bank Africa. The workshop was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Guinea, Amadou Oury Bah, in the presence of the Ministers of Livestock, Agriculture, Health, and Environment, with the Quadripartite. Collaboration between the Quadripartite organizations — Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Health Organization (WHO), UNEP, and World Organisation for Animal Health — as well as regional bodies such as Ecowas - Cedeao and CEMAC, provides a solid foundation for coordinated action. The One Health Joint Plan of Action and its implementation guide provide practical tools and a structured framework to translate commitments into tangible results at national and sub-national levels.

High-Level Virtual Meeting of African Heads of State and Government and Partners (Africa CDC, African Union, World Health Organization (WHO) ,etc. ) on the Ebola Bundibugyo Virus Disease outbreak held on 16th June 2026. World Organisation for Animal Health DG Emmanuelle Soubeyran re-iterated the critical importance of adopting the One Health approach in the response to the Ebola Bundibugyo Virus Disease outbreak. Beyond the current crisis, World Organisation for Animal Health reaffirms its commitment to accompany veterinary services and scientists in order to continue working on the better understanding of the transmission dynamic of zoonotic viral haemorrhagic fevers, develop science-based prevention and preparedness and build resilient animal health system in support for public health and intersectoral solidarity.

DDG, Global Frameworks and Capacity Building, Dr. Baba Soumare remarks on behalf of World Organisation for Animal Health on PPR eradication during the African Development Bank Group Annual Meetings held in Brazzaville, Congo from 25th - 29th May 2026. High-level discussions on investment and resource mobilization reaffirmed a strong continental message: the eradication of Peste des Petits Ruminants ( ) is not only an animal health priority, but also a strategic investment in food security, resilient livelihoods, climate resilience, and the transformation of rural economies across Africa. Through AU-IBAR and its partners i.e. WOAH and FAO, Africa continues to advance collective efforts toward the eradication of PPR by 2030 while building more resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for future generations.

World Organisation for Animal Health congratulates a former Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, Dr. Junaidu Maina and the Ag. Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI), Vom, Dr. Nick Nwankpa on their conferment of the prestigious 2026 WOAH Meritorious Award at the 93rd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates held on May 18, 2026, in Paris, France. The awards were presented to the duo in recognition of their outstanding contributions to animal health, veterinary science, research, vaccine quality assurance, and institutional strengthening.
