Looking back at last night, the room said it all.

The stories mattered. The voices mattered. The work mattered.

It was a night of honouring journalists who continue to shape HIV and STI conversations with courage, care, and truth. The kind of journalism that goes beyond headlines, listens to people, challenges stigma, and keeps public health on the agenda.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists. Your work is seen, valued and needed.

Behind the scenes, it has been early mornings, late nights, last-minute calls, endless follow-ups, pressure, corrections, and quiet work that most people will never see.

Tonight, all of that is paying off.

A full room. Powerful stories. Deserving winners. Media voices getting their flowers for the work they do in shaping honest, human, and stigma-free conversations around HIV and STIs.

This is what impact looks like when the work finally meets the moment.

Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Rep Health Programme - Ayarhep showed up.

Because HIV and STI stories deserve more than silence, stigma, or shallow reporting. They deserve journalists who listen, ask the hard questions, tell the truth with care, and remind the public that behind every health story are real people.

Public health needs good journalism.

Tonight, we celebrate the voices doing that work.

After the county-level inception meeting, the project moves into the hands of adolescent girls and young women.

Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Reproductive Health Programme - Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Rep Health Programme - Ayarhep is holding the Training and Orientation of AGYW Prevention Champions in Homa Bay County.

The session is equipping young women to understand available HIV prevention options, communicate prevention messages clearly, challenge myths and stigma, recognize the barriers AGYW face when seeking services, and support their peers with information and referrals to youth-friendly HIV prevention services.

This is where county alignment begins to translate into community action led by young women themselves.

For an adolescent girl or young woman, is not just about knowing that options exist.

It is about whether she can ask questions without fear, find services close to her, meet providers who listen, and choose what works for her life.

That is the conversation underway today in Homa Bay County, as Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Rep Health Programme - Ayarhep holds the project inception meeting with the County Health Management Team, Sub-County AIDS and STI Coordinators, and County AIDS and STI Coordinators.

This morning, we join the conversation on Kenya’s HIV response.

There have been real wins, but also gaps that still affect adolescents, young people, and communities, especially around access to information, prevention, treatment, care, and stigma-free support.

Tune in to Citizen TV’s Health and Lifestyle from 8am to 9am as the conversation unpacks the hits, the misses, and what must improve.

Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Rep Health Programme - Ayarhep is proud to have Brenda Mutahe, Youth Advocacy Champion, presenting an abstract at the 9th Reproductive Health Network Kenya Pan-African Adolescent & Youth SRHR Scientific Conference 2026 in Mombasa.

Her presentation, “It is not s*x; it is blood: A study on age of consent laws and menstrual hygiene access in rural Kenya brings attention to a critical conversation: how laws, stigma, and access gaps continue to shape the dignity, health, and choices of adolescent girls.

This is why youth-led evidence matters. It brings lived realities into rooms where policy, programming, and accountability are being discussed.
