Yesterday KEHPHPU in collaboration with APHOk addressed the nation on two critical public health concerns: the tragic Utumishi Girls Academy dormitory fire and the proposed U.S. Ebola quarantine facility in Kenya.
The painful loss of young lives at Utumishi Girls Academy is a heartbreaking reminder that school safety, emergency preparedness, environmental sanitation, and public health compliance can never be ignored. KEHPHPU is calling for the immediate deployment of Public Health Officers in all schools to strengthen inspections, disaster preparedness, disease prevention, and enforcement of safety standards to protect every learner across the country.
On the proposed Ebola quarantine facility, KEHPHPU maintains that Kenya must prioritize the safety, health, and wellbeing of its citizens through transparency, public participation, strong disease surveillance systems, and investment in local public health infrastructure before any such project is considered.
Public Health remains the first line of defense in safeguarding communities, schools, and the nation at large.
