At Envaco, we're changing how Kenya manages waste by: ✅ Providing green bags for easy waste sorting ✅ Converting organic waste into animal feeds ✅ Supporting the welfare of landfill workers ✅ Creating employment opportunities in our communities

Every bag sorted is a step toward a cleaner, healthier Kenya.

From waste to worth. 🌱

Every day, tons of organic waste end up in landfills, releasing harmful greenhouse gases. But what if that waste could feed animals, create jobs, and protect our environment instead?

That's exactly what we do at Envaco.

We transform organic waste into affordable animal feeds, support landfill workers, and empower communities across Kenya to see waste as a resource, not a problem.

Join us in building a sustainable future—one green bag at a time. 💚

🌿♻️ Envaco goes global!
We had the privilege of visiting Manishiyat Nasser in Egypt—a community famously known for its innovative approach to waste. What others see as garbage, they transform into valuable resources that power livelihoods and protect the planet.

Our exchange was more than just a visit; it was a learning journey on how determination and creativity can turn challenges into opportunities. This inspires us at Envaco to keep pushing for sustainable solutions right here at home in Kenya 🇰🇪, because waste isn’t the end—it’s the beginning of something new. 💡🌍

Did you know this?

Sweden is converting household food waste into clean fuel for its buses. Cities like Linköping, Malmö, and Västerås collect leftovers from homes, restaurants, and supermarkets, process them in biogas plants, and turn them into biomethane, also called bio-CNG. This fuel runs public buses, making transport more sustainable while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The process is simple. Food waste is separated at home, taken to treatment plants, and digested by microbes. The result is methane gas for buses and nutrient-rich fertilizer for farms. In Västerås alone, nearly 9,000 tons of food waste produced enough biomethane to power 21 buses for a year, cutting over 1,000 tons of CO₂ emissions. Sweden shows how food scraps can create clean energy and close the waste loop.

What do you think it would take for Kenya to implement strict waste sorting strategies that maximize organic waste collection and significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to dumpsites?

ENVACO is a non-profit organization committed to revolutionizing waste management, with a primary focus on improving the management of organic waste while conducting research and publishing on the management of organic waste. Our mission is to align waste management with the principles of the circular economy by promoting reduction, reuse, and recycling.

Recently, ENVACO had the opportunity to engage with the Rainforest Alliance, a global nonprofit driving sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and community empowerment. Our visit shed light on impressive initiatives, especially across six counties in the Mt. Kenya region (Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, and Laikipia).
Key focus areas include:
✅ Certification for sustainable landscapes and farming
✅ Farmer training in ecosystem restoration
✅ Livelihood diversification (e.g., beekeeping, biogas)
✅ Support for SMEs, youth, and school-based sustainability
✅ Promotion of green financing and equitable value chains
However, we sought to understand the challenges they have faced working on recycling organic waste, and here were some of the issues:
1. Market barriers: Despite partnerships with several institutions, scaling sustainable products remains difficult due to limited buyer interest.
2. Scaling issues – Micro-producers must reach industrial scale to turn a profit. The worry that vast volumes of waste are needed to produce a significant amount of proteins
3. Quality control – Natural-based enterprises struggle to maintain consistency, making them less competitive than traditional alternatives.
As we push for inclusive and circular economies, we must ask:
1. How do we ensure small sustainable ventures grow into viable businesses?
2. Can we improve market access and financing pathways for green innovators?
Let’s learn from Rainforest Alliance and work together to bridge the gap between innovation and impact.
