In several Chinese cities, scientists are appearing in places normally dominated by advertising and entertainment. Giant screens and billboards have featured figures including Qian Xuesen, Tu Youyou, Yuan Longping and Deng Jiaxian, highlighting their scientific achievements rather than commercial products.

The campaign has appeared in shopping centers, subway stations and other public spaces, presenting scientists as role models associated with space exploration, medicine, agriculture and nuclear science. Reports indicate that some displays are public-service initiatives by commercial venues rather than a nationwide requirement replacing celebrity advertising.

It is an interesting example of how public spaces can be used to increase the visibility of science, engineering and technological achievement among younger audiences.
