Daraja Civic Initiatives Forum convened the Jukwaa la wanawake forum bringing together women in Embakasi South, Makadara and Starehe areas, under the ongoing Agenda Yetu Project, and providing a platform for them to share their lived experiences, identify the challenges affecting them and their communities, and articulate the priorities they want addressed.

These discussions form part of the broader process of consolidating community voices and priorities into a Citizen Manifesto.

Through forums such as Jukwaa la Wanawake, Agenda Yetu seeks to ensure that the Citizen Manifesto reflects the realities, aspirations and priorities of citizens, particularly groups whose experiences are often not heard to in decision-making spaces.

The engagement was made possible through the support from Uraia Trust Elgia Afric UK in Kenya

This week, Daraja CIF took the conversation to Ruaraka constituency where the Jukwaa la Wanawake forum, bringing together women across the wards ,both the young and the elderly was conducted. This aimed at further promoting the discussions on developing a Citizen manifesto where in this forum particularly, the views and lived experiences of the women were addressed to ensure that the process was as inclusive as possible.
Alot of issues were discussed cutting across issues of increase in drug and substance abuse especially in women and girls to issue of lack of opportunities and high rate of unemployment for the women, which further leads to the general mental health of the women to be affected as they are forced to subject themselves to extreme instances of exploitation for those available few opportunities.
Women are key in our community and having them included in matters of key issues affecting them is a way of ensuring that their views and opinions are well heard and expressed and under the such conversations aim to go beyond just opinions to finding practical sustainable solutions to ensure they never recurr again and such is made possible through the support of Uraia Elgia Afric and UK in Kenya

MAYUT, the agenda is OURS to set!

This week, Daraja CIF held a powerful Youth-Baze session in Dandora-Embakasi North under the project. Young people came together not just to talk, but to identify, prioritize, and own the issues that matter most to them.

Why does this matter?

Because for too long, politics has been about sideshows. About personalities. About ethnicity. About who shouts loudest.

NOT ANYMORE.
Through , young people from Nairobi County are building a Citizen Manifesto, a community-owned document that will guide engagement with leaders and shape policy advocacy at the national level.

This is what issue-based politics looks like.

When young people define their own agenda, they can demand accountability. They can engage leaders on REAL issues; jobs, security, healthcare, education, and opportunity.

This work is part of the larger Kenya Institutional Strengthening Program (KISP) , supported by UK in Kenya Uraia and Elgia Afric

As part of consolidating community voices for national policy dialogue, duty bearer engagement, and the Nairobi County Citizen Manifesto, Daraja CIF with the support of UK in Kenya Uraia and convened a Jukwaa la Wanawake forum in Njiru, Kasarani Constituency.
Women in attendance raised urgent concerns about rising insecurity targeting their gender, a threat so pervasive that many no longer feel safe even reporting incidents to the authorities. Participants linked this trend to high youth unemployment and the growing prevalence of drug and substance abuse, both fueling insecurity at home and in the workplace.
Their call is clear: women's unique safety concerns must be prioritized, and duty bearers must be better equipped to handle sensitive matters affecting women with the seriousness they deserve.
