Keeping Teens Engaged During the Holidays Matters

Did you know School holidays can either expose young people to risk or open doors for growth and expecialy in the underserved communities . By engaging teens in positive activities such as cultural dance and traditional songs, we create safe spaces where they can learn, express themselves, and build confidence.

Through visits to different community social spaces across Nairobi, we used cultural practice as a tool to spark conversations on health, hygiene, and personal responsibility. Music and dance create a powerful platform where important messages are shared in a way that young people can understand and embrace.

When culture meets mentorship, we do more than preserve tradition through the cultural exchanege program from Boehringer Ingelheim Manuela Pastore M.A. inspired our viosion to empowers the next generation to make healthier choices and become stronger community leaders.

⚽ The Power of Collaboration Through Sports

When organizations come together with a shared vision, real transformation happens.

Through the generous support of Lottie’s Way , we have successfully distributed over 5,00 soccer items to different soccer academies and schools across Mukuru and beyond. For many children in underserved communities, these are not just sports items—they are tools of hope, confidence, teamwork, and opportunity.

Sports create safe spaces where young people learn discipline, leadership, and resilience. In communities where play spaces and opportunities are limited, these simple resources can ignite dreams and unlock hidden potential.

This milestone clearly demonstrates the power of collaboration and the strength of system change networks. When partners, community organizations, and supporters align their efforts, we amplify impact and reach thousands more young lives.

At VICCO, we believe that **sport is more than a game—it is a pathway to empowerment, inclusion, and community transformation.

In underserved communities like Mukuru, access to nutritious food remains a daily challenge for many children. Through a partnership between VICCO CBO and TMG, our Sustainable School Meals Program is currently providing hot, nutritious meals to more than 1,200 children across 8 community schools.

This program is more than just feeding children. It is about improving concentration in class, strengthening health, increasing school attendance, and protecting the right to food. For many learners, this is the only reliable meal of the day.

But the need is far greater.

Community schools in informal settlements continue to struggle with hunger, limited resources, and growing enrollment. Scaling sustainable school feeding systems is critical to ensure that no child learns on an empty stomach.

We believe that partnership is the key to systems change.

We are inviting partners, organizations, and individualswho believe in education, nutrition, and dignity to join us in expanding this initiative to reach more schools and more children across underserved communities.

Together, we can build a future where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

In informal settlements like Mukuru, where playgrounds are limited, is more than just a game — it’s development in action.

Using simple, locally available materials, children learn to build, arrange, stack, and create. Through this process they strengthen problem-solving skills, improve concentration, enhance fine motor coordination, and boost creativity.

Nesting play transforms small spaces into powerful learning environments. It builds confidence, encourages focus, and gives children a sense of safety and belonging.

When we create opportunities for structured indoor and memory-based games, we are not just keeping children busy — we are shaping a smarter, more resilient generation.

Food is a right — not a privilege.

In the last 6 months, VICCO has rescued and redistributed 22.4 tonnes of fresh vegetables to schools, health facilities, and underserved communities across Nairobi
That’s 22.4 tonnes of dignity.
22.4 tonnes of nutrition.
22.4 tonnes diverted from waste to plates.
Through food rescue, we are actively advancing United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) — ensuring that vulnerable urban communities have access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food.
But this impact is not built alone.
🤝 Strong networking with farmers, markets, partners, schools, and health facilities makes the system work.
🌱 Collaboration turns surplus into sustenance.
🌍 Partnerships turn waste into hope.
Together, we are strengthening food systems, restoring dignity, and proving that community-driven solutions work.

Proud to share the impact of our collaboration with Lottie’s Way s Way Foundation through the initiative Taking Football to Africa and Beyond.

Together, we delivered 600 soccer uniforms to schools and community academies in urban poor settlements restoring dignity, building confidence, and strengthening teamwork among young players.

In spaces where opportunity is limited, sport becomes a bridge to hope, discipline, and leadership. A uniform is more than fabric it’s identity, belonging, and belief.

Partnerships like this prove that when we work together, we don’t just support talent we unlock potential. ⚽

VICCO is continuing to offer safe, equal, and conducive learning spaces 2026 did you know that this is not optional but it’s essential.
Many children from struggling families face domestic violence that disrupts focus and learning in the undeserved communities.
VICCO Catch Them Young library at the heart of the slums, provides safety, dignity, and hope.
In 2025 alone, we reached more 4,000 children and teenagers.

Today Vicco takes a breath — and keeps running. 🚚✨ welcome back and happy new year
With our trusty cargo tuk, tireless volunteers, and the fierce determination of the Mukuru community, our school meals program now delivers hot nutritious meals every single day to children in community-based schools. This isn’t just food on a plate it’s fuel for learning, a reason to come to class, a shield against hunger, and a promise that a child’s future matters.
Teachers tell us children are more focused, parents breathe easier,
None of this works without people who give time, ideas, and resources — and today I’m asking partners, companies, and individuals who believe in the right to food to stand with us: help scale this, sustain it, and replicate it.

Today at VICCO we distributed books, pencils, ballpoint pens, erasers, geometry sets and other school essentials to children in Mukuru. By removing material barriers we advance SDG 4 quality, inclusive education for all strengthening attendance, confidence and learning outcomes. Education is a right, not a privilege; together with partners and volunteers we’re making sure every child belongs in the classroom.

🎄✨ Christmas in the Ghetto Initiative

was a powerful reminder that joy, dignity, and hope belong to everyone, regardless of where they live. In the heart of Mukuru, Vicco celebrated Christmas with the most vulnerable—children, women, and the elderly—transforming the season into a moment of inclusion, empowerment, and community pride. The event showcased incredible local talent from within Mukuru itself, including dancing, cultural performances, poetry, football juggling, and creative skills, proving that the ghetto is rich with potential and brilliance.
This initiative turned a marginalized space into a celebration of humanity and shared purpose. This Christmas was more than a festivity—it was a call to action to give, uplift, and stand together so that no one is left behind. ❤️
