🌍 Strengthening the Power of Storytelling for Change

The in collaboration with the Social Protection Platform Uganda (SPPU), successfully convened a one-day training for journalists focused on enhancing accurate and impactful reporting on social protection and climate change.

In a rapidly changing world, the role of the media is more critical than ever. By equipping journalists with the right knowledge and tools, this initiative is helping to ensure that conversations around vulnerability, resilience and climate justice are not only amplified but also told with clarity, accuracy, and purpose.

This training marks an important step toward bridging the gap between policy and public understanding because informed storytelling can shape perceptions, influence policy and drive meaningful action.

👏 Kudos to all partners and participants for championing this important work.

Expanding Social Protection in Africa: Ratifying the AU Protocol on Social Security.

The African Union Agenda 2063 focuses on expanding social protection to include Africa’s informal economy, which constitutes over 80% of the workforce.

With Zimbabwe becoming the first country to fully ratify the AU Protocol on Social Protection and Social Security, it sets a powerful example for the continent. Zimbabwe’s commitment demonstrates the potential for inclusive social safety nets, driving lessons for broader implementation.

Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) for a Stronger APSP!

The Africa Platform for Social Protection is committed to continuously enhance its capacity to achieve impactful, long-term results across Africa. This week, we conducted a two-day Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA), a powerful tool that helps us assess and enhance our organization’s readiness to drive sustainable change in social protection.

The process includes evaluating and reviewing our policies, systems and structures, giving us a clear picture of our organizational strengths and areas for growth. By assessing key areas like governance, financial management, program delivery, and community engagement, we pinpointed where improvements will most effectively amplify our impact.

The OCA is more than just an assessment. It represents our promise to beneficiaries, donors and partners that APSP will continuously evolve to meet the highest standards of social protection.

What an Insightful 2-day journey we had at the 2024 United Nations Civil Society Conference in Nairobi, Kenya on 9th-10th May, 2024.

The conference which was attended by CSOs from all over the world, aimed at achieving three objectives namely; inclusion, impacting and innovation.

As CSOs, we took crucial steps towards shaping a future that's inclusive, sustainable, and safe for all. Our collective efforts aimed at increasing awareness, ambition and accountability for the Summit of the Future. We amplified diverse voices and initiatives, paving the way for an inclusive Pact for the Future.

The energy and commitment displayed during the conference were truly impactful. Through multi-stakeholder ImPACT Coalitions, we championed specific issue areas and big-ticket reforms, raising the ambition of the Pact for the Future.

The Africa Platform for Social Protection is grateful for participating in the event and from the lessons learnt and recommendations provided, we as an organization look forward to building a continent where no one is left behind.
