Community Action for Nature Conservation Community Action for Nature Conservation - CANCO - is an environmental conservation civil society organization registered in Kenya as an NGO in 2008.

Community Action for Nature Conservation - CANCO - is an environmental conservation civil society organization. CANCO subscribes to the universal values, principles, and practices of good governance and democratic rights and fundamental freedoms for public interests and common good. Our core Values are:

Our conservation work is implemented through projects in our four core program areas:
1. Marine Ecosystems and Fisheries
2. Oil, Gas, and Mining
3. Wetlands and Water Resources
4. Knowledge Management and Organizational Development

Our Approach: We deliver our mandate through; Engagement, Networking, Empowerment, and Advocacy. Engagement: CANCO utilizes a broad range of effective stakeholder and community engagement mechanisms to promote constructive dialogue and interaction amongst different categories and levels of stakeholders- - National and County government, business corporates, and other civil society organizations. We aim to build sustainable relationships with donors, partners, and beneficiaries. Networking: We build and sustained sector issue-based environmental networks, alliances, and coalitions.We ensure civil society collaborate and work together for public interest and common good. We provide opportunities for collective action but also provides platforms for sharing their concerns, ideas, information, experience, and expertise. Empowerment: We sensitizes communities and stakeholders to have in-depth awareness and understanding of and develop concern about emerging environment and development issues. CANCO provides opportunities to affected communities address problems while maximizing on opportunities that improve their livelihood and the ecosystems they depend on. We enable the communities understand their authority and responsibilities as right holders as well as the obligations of duty-bearers, largely the government, and private business corporates. We build community abilities, relationships, and values that enable community to improve performance to achieve their developmental and conservation goals

Advocacy: Through evidence-based advocacy, we deliver the civil society voice for the protection of environment and integrity of ecosystems in Kenya. CANCO supports and influences substantive legislative and regulatory changes and practices to reduce negative environmental, social and impact of development. We confront and highlight environmental unresponsive development. Our overall desired achievement is to have community groups that are self determined to advocate for good environmental governance and practice and promote responsible use of the natural resources.

We are pleased to announce that Muturi Kamau, CANCO’s National Network Coordinator for the Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group (KOGWG), will be a featured expert on KBC Channel 1 TV

Muturi will join host Ben Troy Njue on the program "Biz Check" to provide professional insights into a critical national issue: The Impact of New Fuel Prices on the Economy.

As the lead for our Oil and Gas programme, Muturi coordinates national efforts to ensure sustainable and equitable governance within the sector. His appearance offers a valuable opportunity to hear expert analysis on how shifting energy costs affect both the national economy and the livelihoods of everyday citizens.
