Climate change is not gender neutral. It disproportionately affects vulnerable groups, particularly pastoral children and ANC mothers, by deepening existing inequalities linked to access to quality primary healthcare.

Amongst pastoral communities in Northern Kenya, Climate Vulnerabilities affect ANC Mothers, undermining their adaptation and resilience, despite being central to family health and nutrition.

Isiolo County Officials Involved in Road Accident Near Laisamis

Four Isiolo County Government officials were involved in a road accident along the Laisamis route on Wednesday morning at approximately 8:35 a.m.

The officials were taken to Laisamis Catholic Hospital for medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and they remain stable. May Allah grant them quick recovery and improved health.

When our team met Falma*, a young mother who had walked 7 km carrying her 2-month-old baby. She told us this was the first time she’d ever met a health worker outside a facility. She smiled with relief when our frontline Community Health Worker, Halimo, explained her child’s immunization schedule in the local Borana language, checked the baby’s nutrition, and reassured her about common newborn concerns.

It’s moments like this that remind us why reaching last-mile pastoral families matters. Every outreach, every CHW visit, every conversation brings a mother closer to care—and a child closer to a healthy start.

Bringing Healthcare Closer to the Last Mile!

Last week, our health in Golbo supported 14 expectant mothers and 19 children under five through antenatal care, nutrition checks, and essential vaccinations.

These efforts strengthen our goal of ensuring no mother or child is left behind because of distance or limited access to healthcare. We are deeply grateful to our community health workers, local leaders, and partners who make this possible.

Yesterday, the team delivered Mobile health outreach to 10 expectant mothers with antenatal care, provided folic acid supplements, and treated minor ailments such as fever and colds.

The team also offered to 23 infants, giving them protection against preventable diseases and a healthier start in life.

These ANC mothers shall be tracked until delivery and their kids (alongside the 23 infants) suppirted to complete their immunization schedules.

We continue to envision a climate-resilient healthcare, everywhere!!

Every journey deserves care—even for mothers on the move!!

In Northern Kenya, pastoralist mothers often walk for hours across arid terrain—not to clinics, but for water and pasture. Maternal health becomes a silent casualty of climate shocks and migration.

Through mobile clinics and trained community health workers, we’re delivering antenatal care (ANC), safe birth support, and newborn checkups to the last mile—right where pastoralist mothers live and move.

Why it matters?

Only 58% of Kenyan women complete 4+ ANC visits—far fewer in nomadic areas.

Early ANC saves lives by spotting complications and offering life-saving support like tetanus shots, nutrition counseling, and safe delivery plans.
