Collaboration of Women in Development-CWID is a premier grassroots women-led non-profit organization based in Mombasa County. It was established in 2005 and got registered in 2010 as a non-governmental
organization by the NGO Coordination Board of Kenya. Between 2005 and 2019, the organization operated as Coast Women in Development (CWID) until August 2019 when the Board of Directors made a strat
egic decision to change its name to allow CWID to operate beyond the borders of the Coastal counties of Kenya. Over the years, we have been recognized, nominated, and awarded various accolades to appreciate the good work that the organization is doing. We were the second runners-up in East Africa under Women Empowerment in the Community for the 9th Gender Mainstreaming Awards 2021, 2020 NGO Global Leadership and Excellence Award winner, including the African NGO Leadership Awards (2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016) with an additional award for the Women are Super Achievers. In addition, the organization has directly supported vulnerable women, girls, and male youth through gender-responsive economic postponement, decision-making in the political process; peace and security, sexual reproduction and health rights, and education.
