✅️Psychological First Aid Training

Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya - AWAK was honoured to be joined by a team from , a European, Jewish-based pluralistic Aid organization, who facilitated a Psychological First Aid (PFA) training for our Community Champions from Nairobi’s informal settlements.

The training equipped participants with practical skills to support community members experiencing distress or crisis through the three core PFA principles: , , and . They learned how to ensure safety, provide empathetic and confidential support, and connect individuals to appropriate services and support networks.

The champions were also taken through self-care practices, recognizing that caring for others begins with taking care of oneself.❤️

This training strengthens community resilience by building a network of champions who can provide timely psychosocial support, promote well-being, and help vulnerable community members access the assistance they need.

✅️ Advancing Agroecology Through Inclusion in Nakuru County!

AWAK was proud to participate in the 4th County Technical Agroecology Committee (CTAC) Meeting in Nakuru, bringing together county government representatives, technical experts, and agroecology stakeholders committed to transforming food systems.

The meeting focused on validating three key documents that will guide agroecology implementation in Nakuru County: ✅️The Five-Year Agroecology Implementation Framework, ✅️The Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework, and ✅️The Stakeholder Mapping Report.

Committed to advancing , , and food systems, AWAK underscored the importance of as a key priority area of the Agroecology Implementation Framework. For agroecology to deliver lasting impact, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups must be meaningfully involved in decision-making, access to resources, and benefit-sharing.

We are encouraged by the progress being made and look forward to supporting the implementation of these frameworks as Nakuru County continues to champion agroecology for resilient livelihoods, healthy ecosystems, and sustainable food systems.

🌎World Environment Day!

This World Environment Day, Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya - AWAK through the Roots of Resilience Project, partnered with Bavuni Junior School in a tree-growing exercise that reminded us why young people must be at the center of environmental conservation.

We were inspired by the learners' enthusiasm and commitment. Many came carrying their own tools, ready to play their part in restoring the environment. Their energy, coupled with the tremendous support from the school management, made the day a true success.

To foster ownership and responsibility, institution leaders and class prefects planted trees together, and the learners paired up to name the trees and commit to nurturing them as they grow.

Because our goal is not simply to plant trees—it is to grow them.

As we restore landscapes, we are also nurturing a generation of environmental stewards who understand the importance of caring for trees, managing waste responsibly, and protecting our environment for future generations.

Together, we are growing resilience, responsibility, and hope.

✅️Roots of Resilience Project.

Following the recent launch of the TerraFund Cohort 3 restoration initiative, Association of Women in Agriculture Kenya - AWAK convened an inception meeting with community members in Bavuni Area, Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, officially kicking off the implementation of our Roots of Resilience restoration project.

The meeting was both inspiring and encouraging, drawing an impressive turnout of community members who expressed overwhelming support for the initiative. Their active participation, insightful contributions, and eagerness to engage demonstrated a strong sense of ownership and a shared commitment to restoring degraded landscapes while improving livelihoods.

Through this project, we will work hand in hand with local communities to promote agroforestry and food-forest systems, restore degraded farmland, strengthen biodiversity, protect water sources, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

We are particularly encouraged by the community's enthusiasm and optimism about the transformative potential of this initiative. Their commitment reaffirms our belief that lasting restoration is only possible when communities are at the center of the process.

Together, we are not only restoring land ,we are restoring livelihoods, resilience, and hope for future generations.

✅️ WE-Care Project.

Through the We-Care Project, we formed a strong alliance of like-minded CBOs and CSOs in Kitui County committed to advancing the care agenda and championing the recognition, reduction, redistribution and Representation of unpaid care and domestic work.

Yesterday, we held a deeply rewarding stock-taking session to reflect on the journey, the wins, and the growing movement we have built together. Beyond intentionally integrating the We-Care agenda into their programs, alliance members shared how their , confidence, and have significantly strengthened through collective action and advocacy.

It was inspiring to reflect on the tangible impact the movement has achieved , from influencing care-friendly infrastructure and initiatives such as boreholes and community bridges, to active participation in policy and budget processes that have amplified community priorities within the county.

Care champions have also continued to influence the wider community through media engagement and advocacy aimed at challenging harmful cultural norms and promoting positive mindset shifts around care work and gender equality.

As we approach the close of Phase 5.3, we are proud of the bold and vibrant movement that continues to make Kitui County a more caring and inclusive county for all. The lessons, partnerships, and impact created through this journey will continue to inspire and shape future advocacy efforts.

We are grateful to Oxfam Kenya for their continued funding and support throughout the implementation of this noble project 🙏
