Meet the team Monday - Mel

“Hi I'm Mel and I've known Kerry since we went to school together 50 years ago!!

Over the years, Kerry has become one of my closest friends. It was through our mutual friend, Michelle, that I first became involved with Kerry's charity. That was nearly 18 years ago.....and I'm still here!

Being involved with Footprints has naturally become part of our friendship. Kerry and I regularly talk about Footprints, share ideas, and solve problems through our chats and brainstorming sessions. Kerry often jokingly refers to me as her PA!

Our friendship means we can have a laugh when we need to, be completely open with each other but, most importantly, we can work effectively together to support The Footprints Family.

I particularly enjoy being involved with the organisation of the Annual Charity Ball which I've helped co-ordinate for many years. Seeing the event come together and seeing everyone enjoying the evening whilst raising vital funds for our charity is very rewarding.

I also look after our volunteer experience - co-ordinating visits from their initial enquiry through to obtaining their post visit feedback. I try and ensure that all visitors are fully informed throughout the process, that they have all the relevant information they'll need ahead of their visit and that the whole process is as seamless as possible.

I've been lucky enough to visit Footprints three times. Nothing ever prepares you for how it actually feels to be there - it's truly magical. I've seen many changes to both the operation and the facilities over the years but, one thing never changes - how happy the children are! Watching what a difference Footprints makes to their lives certainly makes everything we do back in the UK even more worthwhile.

I think it is obvious that Footprints is an important part of my life alongside my wonderful family and my 3 (soon to be 4) beautiful grandchildren.

I had no idea when I first volunteered to help that it would become as important as it is but I can honestly say that Footprints has given me friendships, memories and experiences that I will never forget (not forgetting the odd bit of stress when planning the Ball!!)

I'm very proud to be a key member of The Footprints Family and I hope that I'll be a part of it for many years to come.”
