🐝🌿 This World Bee Day, we celebrate more than just bees — we celebrate the silent guardians of our mangroves.

Earlier this week, alongside SMARCH Foundation and fellow bee & honey enthusiasts, we explored the unique richness of mangrove honey and reflected on the critical role bees play in sustaining and protecting our fragile mangrove ecosystems. From pollination to biodiversity support, bees remain an important line of defense for our coastal forests.

To turn conversations into action, we planted 200 mangrove trees, contributing to the restoration and nourishment of this vital ecosystem. 🌱

The day was crowned with an immersive excursion through the Mikoko Nature Trail and a tour of the ongoing Mangrove Resource Center — a reminder that conservation thrives when learning, collaboration, and action come together.

This year’s BeeDay theme reminds us that protecting bees means protecting ecosystems, livelihoods, and our collective future. 💛🐝

Accelerating Action for Women in Business
– Mombasa Edition ✨

On 28th March 2026, Big Ship proudly hosted a vibrant and impactful Post–International Women’s Day event at Bombolulu Workshop, bringing together over 120 women and girls from across Mombasa under the theme “Accelerating Action for Women in Business.”

The day was filled with energy, connection, and purpose. Young women and girls had the opportunity to unwind and express themselves through lively dances and songs, creating a joyful and safe space for interaction and celebration.

Through engaging gallery walks, participants explored both the opportunities and barriers women face in business, sparking meaningful conversations and shared learning. A dynamic panel discussion further highlighted the future of the blue economy sector and the vast potential it holds for young women and girls in Mombasa.

A key highlight of the event was a powerful mental wellness session led by Madam Mariam, a consultant at Duara, emphasizing the importance of emotional and psychological well-being as a foundation for success in business and life.

We were also delighted to have young men from the BlueBiz program join the conversation, reinforcing the importance of inclusive dialogue and collective action in advancing gender equality.

Special appreciation goes to Madam Winnie, Youth and Gender Coordinator from TechnoServe, for representing our valued partner and supporting this important initiative.

Together, we continue to accelerate action, break barriers, and create opportunities for women and girls to thrive in business and beyond. 💙
