🌍 CLIMATE JUSTICE MUST INCLUDE EVERYONE.
As Bahari Community Empowerment Centre (BCEC), we are proud to partner with the SRHR & Climate Justice Coalition and OUT for Sustainability to convene a virtual deep-dive session on Climate Change & Trans Health.
πŸ“… Wednesday, 9 September 2026
⏰ 8:00 AM New York | 13:00 London | 17:30 New Delhi | 3:00 PM Kenya (EAT)
πŸ’» Zoom
Extreme heat, flooding, displacement, and other climate-related crises can disrupt access to healthcare and essential services often creating deeper challenges for communities whose experiences are not adequately reflected in climate vulnerability assessments and disaster response planning.
Our conversation will bring together researchers Brandon Rothrock from the United States and Arnav Singh Rana from India, followed by an open discussion exploring practical entry points for advocacy across SRHR, climate adaptation, health equity, and justice.
At BCEC, we believe that climate justice is health justice, gender justice, and social justice.

Together, let us learn, connect, and advance climate solutions that leave no one behind.

THE TRIPLE THREAT IS ONE TRAP.
It’s stealing the future of our girls in Kenya.

At Bahari Community Empowerment Centre (BCEC), we refuse to normalize this:

50 adolescent girls acquire HIV EVERY SINGLE DAY.
71 cases of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence every 24 hours.
698 adolescent pregnancies EVERY DAY - and pregnancies among girls aged 10-14 rose by 14.6% in 2025.

This is not three separate problems. It is ONE structural crisis where a girl who lacks information, services and protection is pushed into HIV, teen pregnancy and violence at the same time.
The evidence is clear: When we invest in food security, parental support, and gender-equal attitudes, teen pregnancy drops from 23.7% to 7.7%, and s*xual violence from 20.4% to 6%.

That’s why through our Youth Climate Justice Leadership Program (YCJLP), we are not just talking about climate - we are building safe spaces where young people get:
βœ… SRHR & HIV information
βœ… Leadership & advocacy skills
βœ… Protection from GBV
βœ… Economic resilience to end transactional s*x

We cannot end the Triple Threat without youth leading the solution.

Join us. Speak out. Protect our girls.

Understanding Safe Abortion: Why Accurate Information Matters

Safe abortion is an important public health issue. WHO guidance highlights the importance of access to quality, safe, respectful and evidence-based healthcare.

πŸ”Ή Unsafe abortion can lead to serious complications and preventable deaths. Stigma, misinformation, limited access to healthcare, delays in care and policy barriers can increase risks.

πŸ”Ή Quality clinical care should be provided by appropriately trained healthcare professionals and should uphold confidentiality, dignity, respect and non-judgmental care.

πŸ”Ή Strong health systems require trained providers, appropriate equipment and supplies, effective referral systems, quality assurance and accurate community health information.

πŸ”Ή Legal and policy issues also matter. Reproductive healthcare should always be understood within the applicable laws, policies and professional standards of each country.

Key Message

Safe care saves lives. Quality healthcare matters. Confidentiality and dignity matter. Strong health systems improve access.

Let us challenge stigma and misinformation and encourage people seeking reproductive healthcare to consult qualified healthcare professionals and rely on accurate, trusted health information.

We are proud to share that Bahari Community Empowerment Centre (BCEC) was privileged to be among 30 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) selected to participate in a two-day Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Advocacy, Budgeting and Financing Training in Nairobi, organized by MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya.
Our Founder, Alexander Evance Odongo led the organization during this impactful training, where participants explored how communities can influence policies, legislation, and public budgets to improve access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
A major highlight was learning about important legislative efforts, including Hon. Millie Odhiambo's Family Reproductive Healthcare Bill, 2024 and Senator Beatrice Ogolla's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Bill, which seek to strengthen reproductive healthcare and improve health outcomes for women, children, and young people across Kenya.

Beyond the knowledge gained, the training reminded us that real change starts with informed communities. As grassroots organizations, we have a responsibility to ensure community voices are heard during planning and budgeting processes so that no one is left behind.
We return home better equipped to champion evidence-based advocacy, engage decision-makers, and promote equitable investment in health services that transform lives.
We extend our sincere appreciation to MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya for creating this learning platform and for investing in the capacity of community organizations to drive meaningful and lasting change.
Together, we continue working towards healthier communities and a future where everyone can access quality reproductive healthcare.

UNDERSTANDING THE SOLUTION TREE APPROACH
At Bahari Community Empowerment Centre (BCEC), we believe that lasting change begins by addressing the root causes of community challenges rather than only treating the visible effects.

The Solution Tree helps us understand how sustainable development works:

Roots :Root Causes These are the underlying issues that contribute to problems such as teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence: β€’ Poverty β€’ Lack of awareness and education β€’ Limited access to health services β€’ Gender inequality β€’ Unemployment and economic hardship β€’ Weak family and community support systems
Stem : Solutions and Interventions These are the actions we implement to address the root causes: β€’ SRHR education and awareness campaigns β€’ Youth mentorship and empowerment programs β€’ Community dialogues and advocacy β€’ Economic empowerment initiatives β€’ Safe reporting and support services β€’ Community engagement and capacity building
Branches :Positive Outcomes When the root causes are addressed, communities experience: βœ” Reduced Teenage Pregnancy βœ” Reduced Gender-Based Violence βœ” Improved Health and Well-being βœ” Increased School Retention βœ” Greater Gender Equality βœ” Stronger and More Resilient Communities
At BCEC, we are committed to nurturing strong roots that lead to sustainable solutions and positive transformation for vulnerable communities.
Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives.
