The Somali Community Association held Annual meeting with the Council of Elders of the Somali Community. The meeting brought together community leaders, elders, representatives, and members of the association to discuss important matters affecting the Somali community in Mombasa and to review the progress made during the year chaired the Chairman Abdo Bahajj

During the meeting, the Somali Community Association gave an overview of its activities, aerogrammes, and community initiatives. The report highlighted the efforts made by the association to support Somali families, encourage community participation, and respond to the needs of community members. The association also explained the progress made in implementing its plans and discussed the challenges faced during the year.

among the key issues to be addressed ahead of the 2027 General Election in Kenya are:

Youth National ID Registration – encouraging eligible youth to obtain their National Identity Cards.
Voter Registration – mobilising eligible community members to register as voters.
SHA Registration – assisting community members to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA).

General Election Preparedness – civic education and community awareness ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Youth Empowerment & Participation – encouraging young people to actively participate in civic and community affairs.

Community Unity & Leadership – strengthening cooperation, responsible leadership, and peaceful participation in the electoral process.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing regular consultations and maintaining close cooperation. The Somali Community Association and the Council of Elders reaffirmed their commitment to working together for the benefit of the Somali community. They also encouraged community members to contribute their ideas, support community initiatives, and participate actively in future meetings and programmes.

Furat Hotel & Restaurant in Bondeni, Mombasa, Kenya, has officially opened its doors, marking a new addition to the hospitality and business sector in the city.

The official opening ceremony was graced by County Commissioner Mohamed Noor Hassan as the chief guest.

The event was also attended by Mvita MP Hon.Machele Mohamed Soud Machele . Mombasa Senator Hon. Mohamed Faki Mwinyi Hajji, Hon. Amina Sahara Shale, Nominated Kilifi MCA, and Mohamed Osman from Mombasa Trade and Tourism.

Also present were Somali Community Chairman Abdow Bahaji, his Deputy Chairman Ahmed Hajji, Somali community leaders, Sheikhs and business people, and other invited officials.

The opening brought together government representatives, community leaders, and members of the business community to celebrate the establishment of a new hospitality facility in Bondeni, Mombasa.

The Mombasa Somali Community Association held a consultative meeting with Hon. Aden Duale , EGH Cabinet Secretary for Health, Republic of Kenya to discuss key issues affecting community development, social cohesion, and civic participation.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration with religious leaders, the business community, women, and youth, while promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging greater participation in national ID card registration and voter registration.

The Mombasa Somali Community Association reaffirmed its support for the development agenda of H.E. President William Ruto, emphasizing a shared commitment to inclusive growth, national unity, and improved service delivery for all citizens.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir commended the Somali community for its significant contribution to Kenya’s economy, describing its entrepreneurial spirit as a model of resilience, hard work, and collaboration.

“We should never be apologetic for who we are. The Somali community is industrious and business-minded. It has the capacity to live and work with people from every background, not just in Kenya but across the world. What started in places like Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa has grown into partnerships with many other communities. That is a lesson all of us can learn, because there is enough opportunity for everyone if we work together,” he said.

The Governor also encouraged young people who become eligible for national identity cards to apply without delay, emphasizing that obtaining an ID enables them to fully participate in national development and civic responsibilities.

During Eid al-Adha Qurbani meat distribution programme, the Islamic Relief Kenya donated 6 kg packs of fresh meat to 1,700 vulnerable families across the six sub-counties of Mombasa County: Kisauni, Changamwe, Jomvu, Likoni, Mvita, and Nyali. The initiative involved the slaughter of 850 goats and sheep and forms part of Islamic Relief Kenya’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

This year, Islamic Relief Kenya partnered with the Mombasa Somali Community Association (MSCA) in the distribution of Qurbani meat to ensure disadvantaged families could celebrate the holiday with dignity and share in the spirit of Eid al-Adha. The MSCA Chairman Mr. Abdo Bahajj expressed his gratitude to Islamic Relief Kenya, its partners, donors, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the success of this noble humanitarian effort.
