The Mombasa Somali Community Association held a consultative meeting with Hon. Aden Duale , EGH Cabinet Secretary for Health, Republic of Kenya to discuss key issues affecting community development, social cohesion, and civic participation.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration with religious leaders, the business community, women, and youth, while promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging greater participation in national ID card registration and voter registration.

The Mombasa Somali Community Association reaffirmed its support for the development agenda of H.E. President William Ruto, emphasizing a shared commitment to inclusive growth, national unity, and improved service delivery for all citizens.

Among those in attendance were the Association Chairman, Mr. Abdow Bahaji, Abdiwahab Santur Secretary ,Ibrahim Mohamed Treasurer ,Abdikadir Jeylani Organizing Secretary, Abdikadir Hussein Assistant Treasurer, Mustaf Abdinasir Nyali ,Sheikh Mohamed Maalim Religious Mohamed Ibrahim Apolo and Mzee Adan Gulleid from the Council of Elders

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir commended the Somali community for its significant contribution to Kenya’s economy, describing its entrepreneurial spirit as a model of resilience, hard work, and collaboration.

“We should never be apologetic for who we are. The Somali community is industrious and business-minded. It has the capacity to live and work with people from every background, not just in Kenya but across the world. What started in places like Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa has grown into partnerships with many other communities. That is a lesson all of us can learn, because there is enough opportunity for everyone if we work together,” he said.

The Governor also encouraged young people who become eligible for national identity cards to apply without delay, emphasizing that obtaining an ID enables them to fully participate in national development and civic responsibilities.

During Eid al-Adha Qurbani meat distribution programme, the Islamic Relief Kenya donated 6 kg packs of fresh meat to 1,700 vulnerable families across the six sub-counties of Mombasa County: Kisauni, Changamwe, Jomvu, Likoni, Mvita, and Nyali. The initiative involved the slaughter of 850 goats and sheep and forms part of Islamic Relief Kenya’s ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

This year, Islamic Relief Kenya partnered with the Mombasa Somali Community Association (MSCA) in the distribution of Qurbani meat to ensure disadvantaged families could celebrate the holiday with dignity and share in the spirit of Eid al-Adha. The MSCA Chairman Mr. Abdo Bahajj expressed his gratitude to Islamic Relief Kenya, its partners, donors, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the success of this noble humanitarian effort.
