Kardatzke Memorial School, part of the Camara Education Kenya network, recently visited Tom Mboya Boys School, a partner institution equipped with thin client computers. Located just a few kilometers apart, the proximity made the visit easy to arrange while providing Kardatzke students with access to a new learning environment.
This visit was part of the ongoing Thin Clients Project, which aims to expand practical IT skills among students. It was especially important because all of Kardatzke’s computers had reached the end of their life and were written off as e-waste, leaving the school without functioning machines. At Tom Mboya Boys, Kardatzke students gained hands-on experience programming with Scratch on thin client computers provided by Camara Education Kenya. To ensure meaningful participation, the number of visiting students was matched to the available workstations, allowing for one-on-one or small group sessions where each student could engage directly with the software.
For many of these students, it was their first opportunity to code in a practical setting. Using Scratch’s visual and beginner-friendly interface, they learned foundational programming concepts such as sequences, loops, sprites, and event handling. They created simple animations and interactive stories, which boosted both their creativity and confidence in using technology.
The visit underscored the benefits of thin client technology in schools, offering affordable and accessible digital learning tools that can reach more students, especially in resource-constrained environments.

Wishing a meaningful Eid ul-Adha to our colleagues, partners, and the communities we serve.

🇰🇪 Africa Day: Investing in the Future

At Ukia Girls Secondary School in Kenya, Africa Day is more than just a celebration, it’s a call to action.

Mr. Philip Ngumbi, the school’s dedicated ICT teacher, recently led a full-class lesson using a Camara Education laptop. With students gathered around the projected screen, you could see the impact of technology in real time: learning came alive, questions flowed, and curiosity sparked.
This is the power of support from organisations and donors.

Across Kenya, access to computers and digital resources remains limited, particularly in rural schools. Yet the potential is immense. Technology enables students to think critically, explore global knowledge, and gain essential skills for a modern world. For teachers, it’s a powerful tool to enhance learning and reach more students effectively.

To our friends and partners: investing in education across Africa, especially in underserved areas, means changing lives, one classroom at a time. These students aren’t just learning; they’re preparing to lead.

Growing up, Michelle Mukami attended Mariakani Primary School, where there was no electricity, let alone digital resources. Learning science was tough, experiments were just words in a textbook, and understanding concepts without seeing them in action felt impossible.

Everything changed when she joined Kambi Mawe Girls Secondary School. For the first time, she sat in front of a real computer, thanks to the STEM Steps Project, a partnership between Camara Education and Dell Technologies. It was a game-changer! Through interactive simulations, Michelle finally saw science come to life. Complex topics that once felt confusing started making sense, and she discovered a love for technology, especially AI.

AI didn’t just help her understand science better; it changed the way she thought. She became more analytical, solving problems step by step. That’s when inspiration struck: what if AI could help predict rainfall patterns? Farmers in her community struggle with unpredictable weather, and she dreams of creating an AI-powered system to help them plan better.

"AI has opened my mind to endless possibilities. I want to use technology to solve real-world problems, starting with helping farmers predict rainfall and fight climate change," Michelle says with determination.

Now, Michelle is determined to pursue meteorology and use AI to improve weather forecasting. Her goal? To help combat climate change and make life easier for farmers. From a school with no electricity to a future driven by technology, Michelle’s journey proves that with the right opportunities, anything is possible!

In 2025, Camara Education is prioritising the integration of AI into digital education, helping young people like Michelle unlock new opportunities, develop future-ready skills, and drive real-world change in their communities.

Empowering All Learners Through Technology

At Makueni Integrated Vocational Empowerment Centre (Mivec), students with disabilities and those without are proving that education has no limits when technology is accessible to all! Thanks to the STEM STEPS Project, a partnership between Dell Technologies and Camara Education, these students now have access to computers that open doors to STEM learning and digital opportunities.

Students with disabilities can now learn, explore, and innovate alongside their peers, using accessible digital tools that make education more inclusive. This initiative is not just about technology it’s about breaking barriers, fostering inclusion, and ensuring that every student has an equal chance to learn and thrive.

On this Global Accessibility Awareness Day ( ), let’s continue working towards a future where technology empowers EVERY learner!

Technology has revolutionised how I learn and grow, and at the heart of this transformation is the Ukia CIC Hub, supported by Camara Education and Dell Technologies. “It has opened doors to new ways of learning, collaboration, and self-improvement,” making education more interactive and exciting. With ICT tools, I can explore endless resources, develop critical thinking skills, and take charge of my learning like never before.

The hub is more than just a space with computers; it’s a gateway to innovation. Equipped with high-speed internet, essential software, and modern digital tools, it bridges the gap between theory and practice. “These facilities bridge the gap between theory and practice,” enabling me to research, create, and collaborate seamlessly. Whether working on group projects or diving deep into academic research, I have the resources and support to bring ideas to life.

But what truly sets the Ukia CIC Hub apart is its sense of community. “Collaborating with peers has improved my communication, teamwork, and perspective,” as we share ideas and learn from one another. The workshops and training sessions offer hands-on experiences with emerging technologies, making learning both practical and engaging.

A special mention goes to Camara Education, whose unwavering support ensures the hub remains a thriving centre for digital learning. “The Camara team has been very supportive, ensuring the computers are well serviced and even helping the community with digital skills during their maintenance visits.” Their dedication keeps the hub running smoothly, empowering us with knowledge that extends beyond the classroom.

Of course, challenges exist occasional electricity issues can be frustrating. But despite these setbacks, the hub remains committed to its mission, constantly improving its infrastructure to maximise learning opportunities.

Ultimately, the Ukia CIC Hub is more than just a learning space; it’s a platform for growth, innovation, and empowerment. “The hub is not just a learning space; it’s a place for growth, innovation, and empowerment.” It has equipped me with essential digital skills, fuelled my curiosity, and prepared me for an increasingly digital world.
