Today, the Mombasa Youth Council , led by our President, Hon. Antigoals Ray Mce , together with the Cabinet, paid a courtesy visit to the Mombasa County Government.

We visited the office of the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism and Culture, Hon.Mohamed Osman ali , where we held meaningful discussions on youth empowerment, collaboration, and strategic partnerships between the Mombasa Youth Council and the County Government.

We also engaged with the Director of Tourism, exploring areas of mutual interest and potential programmes that can create opportunities and strengthen youth participation in Mombasa’s tourism and creative economy.

We were honoured by the presence of Hon. Emmily Achieng, CECM for Water, Natural Resources and Climate Change Resilience, who graced the meeting with inspiring words, valuable insights, and encouragement that motivated us as young leaders.

The visit was more than a courtesy call—it was about building bridges, strengthening partnerships, and creating practical opportunities for the young people of Mombasa.

🌟 LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT

As we begin the week, we celebrate Hon. Jonanga Kalehah Abishag , Deputy Speaker of the Mombasa Youth Council Assembly and Youth Representative of Mikindani Ward , a young leader with a remarkable spirit and a genuine heart for service.

Small in stature, but big in courage, confidence and leadership. When she takes the Speaker’s Chair, you quickly realize that leadership is not about size or age, but about character, responsibility and impact.

And when she is away from the Speaker’s Chair, she wears another important hat .. serving as the youth representative of Mikindani Ward, engaging young people and championing their voice and interests.

Beyond leadership, Abishag is an HR professional in the making, a passionate entrepreneur and a young woman turning her love for baking into a growing cinnamon-roll business. 🧁

Her journey reminds us that young people can lead, learn, serve and build all at once.

Keep rising, Hon. Abishag. Small in stature, BIG in leadership. 💫🇰🇪

Leadership begins by listening, engaging and standing with the people. 🇰🇪

The Mombasa Youth Council joined Hon Osuka Jonah , a Member of the Mombasa Youth Council Assembly representing Mkomani Ward, for a meaningful grassroots engagement that brought together over 300 residents from Shauri Yako, Mnazi Mmoja and Kisumu Ndogo.

The engagement was graced by Hon. Ali Kubo Speaker of the Mombasa Youth Council Assembly, who served as the Chief Guest.

The forum provided an opportunity to listen to community voices, understand the challenges affecting our people, and discuss the aspirations and opportunities that can shape a better future for Mkomani Ward and Mombasa at large.

As a Youth Council, we believe that young people must be at the heart of conversations, solutions and decisions that shape our future.

From the grassroots, we listen. Through leadership, we act. Together, we build.

DAY 4 | CLOSING CEREMONY – WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERS WEEK 2026 🌍🇰🇪

We brought the World Heritage Volunteers Week 2026 to a memorable close at Masqan, Swahilipot Hub, Mombasa, in a ceremony graced by the Chief Officer for Youth, Mr. Goshy Ally, from the Department of Youth, alongside other distinguished leaders and partners.

The closing ceremony provided an opportunity for volunteers to reflect on their experiences, share lessons learnt, celebrate cultural exchange and highlight the impact of the week’s activities. We also screened a documentary capturing key moments, engagements and milestones throughout the programme.

On behalf of the Mombasa Youth Council, we extend our sincere gratitude to UNESCO for entrusting us with this remarkable opportunity to bring young people together in promoting heritage conservation, cultural appreciation and community engagement.

We are equally grateful to all our partners, including Jure Culture and Tales, National Museums of Kenya,Fort Jesus, Swahilipot Hub Mahmoud Noor , Mombasa Tourism Council,Machele Foundation and Ziya, for their invaluable support, collaboration and commitment in making this initiative a success.

To our volunteers, community members and everyone who contributed their time, energy and expertise, thank you for making this journey meaningful.

This may be the end of the week, but it is the beginning of a renewed commitment to safeguarding our heritage and placing young people at the centre of its preservation.

DAY 3 | WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERS WEEK 2026 🌍🇰🇪

Our cultural engagement with the Wa Jomvu community in Jomvu Kuu, Changamwe, continued with an enriching experience of their traditional way of life.

Our volunteers had the opportunity to taste traditional foods and drinks, learn how meals were prepared in the past using indigenous methods, and appreciate the cultural practices passed down through generations.

The delegation also explored traditional pottery, one of the community’s historical economic activities, gaining insight into how pottery contributed to livelihoods, craftsmanship and the preservation of cultural identity.

It was a remarkable opportunity for our volunteers to experience the Wa Jomvu heritage firsthand, appreciate indigenous knowledge and understand the importance of safeguarding our cultural traditions for future generations.

Preserving our heritage means keeping our stories, traditions and ways of life alive. 🌍🤝

DAY 3 | WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERS WEEK 2026 🌍🇰🇪

Our visit to Jomvu Kuu, Changamwe, was marked by a warm cultural welcome from the Wa Jomvu community, whose rich traditions and heritage reflect the diversity of Mombasa’s cultural identity.

The delegation received welcoming remarks and an insightful education session on the Wa Jomvu culture, traditions and origins, offering our volunteers an opportunity to learn about the community’s history, identity and cultural practices.

The engagement provided a meaningful platform for cultural exchange, intergenerational learning and appreciation of indigenous heritage, reminding us that preserving our heritage begins with understanding and valuing our roots.

DAY 3 | WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERS WEEK 2026 🌍🌿

The journey from Fort Jesus, Old Town, to Jomvu Kuu, Changamwe, marked another important step in our World Heritage Volunteers Week 2026 activities.

Our delegation travelled to Jomvu Kuu, where volunteers joined the Wa Jomvu community in strengthening community engagement, promoting cultural heritage and fostering environmental responsibility.

Heritage preservation begins with people, and through these engagements, we continue to connect young people with local communities in safeguarding our shared heritage.

Together, we move from heritage awareness to community action. 🌍🤝
