We recently convened a meaningful forum bringing together young people from across Mombasa County to engage in critical discussions on Harm Reduction and the wellbeing of young men and women. The dialogue underscored the importance of addressing substance use through compassionate, evidence-based approaches that support People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs) while promoting prevention, dignity, and access to essential services.

The forum provided a platform for youth to share experiences, perspectives, and innovative ideas on how communities can better respond to the challenges associated with substance use. Through open dialogue and collaboration, participants explored practical strategies that prioritize health, inclusion, and community resilience.

As young leaders, we remain committed to advancing interventions that reduce harm, empower communities, and create opportunities for healthier and safer futures. By working together, we can build a Mombasa where every young person has the support and resources they need to thrive.

Epic Youth Organisation (EYO) recently took part in two strategic capacity-building trainings organized by the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA), aimed at strengthening awareness and response to terrorist financing risks within Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs).

These sessions offered in-depth guidance on evolving regulatory frameworks, compliance obligations, and practical approaches to identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks. Beyond theory, the trainings emphasized real-world scenarios and accountability mechanisms that enable organizations to safeguard their operations against misuse.

Through this engagement, EYO has strengthened its commitment to upholding the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and good governance, while aligning its systems with national and global compliance expectations. The knowledge gained will directly inform our internal controls, financial oversight, and program implementation strategies.

We recently participated in a monitoring and review roundtable for the Y-ARM project, convened by NAYA KenyaNAYA alongside its partners. The session brought together implementing organizations, youth leaders, and development partners to assess progress, explore the project’s impact, and reflect on key lessons emerging from implementation.

The discussions went beyond routine reporting, providing deeper insights into what is working, what needs improvement, and how strategies can better respond to the evolving needs of young people. It also fostered meaningful peer learning, with participants openly sharing experiences, challenges, and innovative practices. These reflections will directly inform how Epic Youth Organization continues to strengthen its advocacy and program delivery.

A key takeaway was the importance of intentional and meaningful youth engagement. Factors such as timing, location, and training design play a critical role in determining inclusivity and participation. Moving beyond passive involvement, the roundtable emphasized creating spaces where young people actively shape decisions, contribute to program design, and participate in evaluating impact ensuring interventions are truly youth-driven, relevant, and sustainable.

We joined fellow youth-led organizations, youth-friendly service providers, and representatives from the Mombasa County Department of Health for a comprehensive dialogue on the status of Youth-Friendly Services (YFS) across Mombasa County.

The engagement brought together diverse stakeholders to critically assess how YFS is currently being delivered. Participants shared firsthand experiences on accessibility, quality of care, inclusivity, and responsiveness of services to the real needs of young people. Key discussions highlighted existing gaps such as limited awareness among youth, inconsistencies in service standards, capacity challenges among providers, and barriers that hinder young people from fully utilizing these services.

Importantly, the session also explored opportunities for improvement, including strengthening coordination between stakeholders, enhancing youth participation in service design, and promoting accountability in service delivery. As a result, a joint and actionable plan was developed, outlining clear steps, roles, and collaborative efforts needed to address the identified challenges and improve the overall effectiveness of YFS in the county.

We extend our sincere appreciation to NAYA Kenya for their continued support in facilitating this important engagement and advancing youth-centered health initiatives.

On April 1st, 2026, Epic Youth Organization stood at the forefront of a defining moment as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially launched the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) in Mombasa County. The event brought together county leadership, national government representatives, civil society, and citizens united by one purpose: strengthening democracy.

But beyond the ceremony lies the real story:
In just two days since the national rollout, over 4,000 new voters have already been registered compared to 13,000 recorded over a much longer period since last year.

This is the clearest signal yet: when access is brought closer to the people, participation rises.

What made the Mombasa launch especially powerful for Epic:

βœ… A visibly inclusive β€œPeople with Special Interest” space bringing women, youth, and persons with disabilities to the center, not the margins

βœ… Persons with disabilities actively registering mobility aids at the venue reflecting real participation, not symbolism

βœ… Strong turnout of women across diverse communities affirming years of advocacy for inclusive electoral processes

βœ… Youth stepping forward voluntarily the momentum is alive and growing

βœ… Integrated service delivery through the Huduma Mashinani initiative government services reaching people where they are

βœ… IEBC’s mobile registration units deployed ward-by-ward taking democracy directly into communities

For years, Epic has championed the message that inclusive voter registration is not a privilege it is a constitutional right. In Mombasa, that principle is being put into action.

To every young person in Mombasa and across Kenya who is yet to register: this is your time.

πŸ“… Registration Period: March 30 – April 28, 2026
πŸͺͺ Requirement: Valid National ID
πŸ“ Access Points: County Assembly Wards | Huduma Centres | IEBC Constituency Offices
Register today. Your vote is not just about the futureit shapes your present.

In collaboration with NAYA and a coalition of youth-led and youth-serving organizations, we were honored to submit a joint memorandum on the Public Participation Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 44 of 2025) to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs at Tononoka Social Hall, Mombasa.

Our submission advances the call for stronger frameworks that guarantee Meaningful and Inclusive Youth Participation (MIYP) in Kenya’s governance and decision-making processes.

We emphasized that youth participation is not a matter of discretion or goodwill it is a constitutional obligation anchored in the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, and must be upheld in both policy and practice.

We recently convened a powerful follow-up session with youth advocates across Mombasa to refine and align key priority areas emerging from our initial training, including insights from the County Fiscal Strategy Paper. The engagement strengthened a unified advocacy direction and deepened our collective commitment to advancing issues affecting adolescents and young people.

The session also created space to reflect on our capacity-building journey sharpening our understanding of policy and budgeting processes, improving how we track commitments, and reinforcing accountability in our advocacy efforts. It’s encouraging to witness a growing, vibrant network of youth advocates turning knowledge into tangible impact.

This engagement was convened by NAYA Kenya.

Today, we had the privilege of partnering with the Amkeni Community to host an inspiring Youth Baraza at the Maskani Yetu Centre in Manooni, held with the support and leadership of the area Chief. The forum brought together passionate young leaders, community champions, and key stakeholders from across Kisauni for a meaningful dialogue centered on youth leadership, peacebuilding, and collective community progress.

More than just a meeting, the Baraza served as a platform for inspiration and empowerment where young people openly reflected on their realities and envisioned solutions for a better future. Participants explored pressing challenges such as unemployment, insecurity, and limited civic participation, while identifying practical pathways for youth engagement in governance, entrepreneurship, and peace initiatives. Through interactive discussions and shared experiences, the youth generated fresh ideas and community-driven solutions rooted in their lived realities.

The gathering concluded with clear commitments, including nurturing youth peace ambassadors, strengthening mentorship spaces, and building stronger collaboration between community leaders and young people. These outcomes reaffirm a shared belief that the youth of Kisauni are not just the leaders of tomorrow but powerful changemakers of today.

With renewed motivation and unity of purpose, we move forward committed to nurturing a generation that leads with courage, responsibility, and hope for a peaceful and thriving community.
