Kujenga Amani Program: The Final Journey 🌍✨

On March 26–27, we gathered in Dar es Salaam for the closing event of the Kujenga Amani Program.

After three years of work across Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique, partners and stakeholders came together to celebrate the impact of this shared journey and the strong network of peacebuilders built along the way.

From community dialogues and school peace clubs to sports tournaments and media engagement, each phase of the project contributed to promoting social cohesion across East Africa. A special highlight was the showcase of projects implemented by 70 local CSOs, whose dedication, expertise, and frontline commitment have been at the heart of this initiative.

We were also honored by the presence of EU Deputy Head of Delegation Isabelle Mignucci, European Commission Programme Manager Chiara Guidetti, and the Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola.

Special thanks to CEFA - Tanzania and WeWorld Tanzania for hosting us in Dar es Salaam, and to all partners who made this journey possible: SambaSports Youth Agenda, , Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection and GNRC- Tanzania

A huge thank you to European Union in Kenya, European Union in Tanzania , and União Europeia em Moçambique for believing in this vision and supporting us every step of the way. 🇪🇺

TAZAMA PROJECT - Photo Exhibition 📸✨

During the Kishoka YOUTH Organization closing event in January, we showcased a powerful photo exhibition capturing the project's journey.

These images weren't just photos; they were moments captured by the young mothers and girls of the project using instant cameras. It’s a raw, authentic storytelling experience through their own eyes.

From beach clean-ups and plastic recycling workshops to financial training and the creation of GSL groups, these women have been the true protagonists.

Together, they are building a sustainable future, turning recycled plastic into beautiful earrings and creating their own plastic hub.

MINDA YEHU 🍃— A 2-episode documentary on land issues.

Smart Move Community has implemented a powerful project focused on land justice and rights, combining community awareness with essential legal support.

In this first episode, community members share their stories and the lived experiences of young people navigating vulnerability, identity, and opportunity.

It explores how intentional, community-led interventions can successfully shift the narrative from risk to resilience.

A special thanks to the production team for bringing these stories to life and capturing the heart of this journey.

THE PEACE CLUB REGIONAL EVENT WAS STUNNING! 🩵

Last weekend, our Tanzanian team in Dar es Salaam hosted students from Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique. These participants were selected from schools that took part in Peace Club activities over the past year.

It was two days of intense activity with a clear objective: to strengthen student bonding and amplify their voices through peace messages and initiatives.

🫂Through the Kujenga Amani project, we’ve realized that peace is built day by day, in our ordinary lives, through every action, small or large. And school is where it all begins. Education and peace awareness are the keys to building a united society and a new generation that fights peacefully for a better future together.

📸The pictures show students engaging in icebreakers, creating "problem trees," and leading panel discussions. On the final day, they had the chance to showcase their performances to the plenary.. and the stage was on fire! 🔥

It was an amazing experience and a real opportunity for students to connect and open up.

Stay tuned to see their performances in the coming days!

💪🏽The event was organized in collaboration between CEFA Moçambique CEFA - Tanzania, CEFA - Kenya & Somalia, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection and The Global Religions for Children Foundation

Yesterday, our CEFA office in Mombasa hosted an Outcome Harvesting workshop facilitated by Bernardo Monzani - Cofunder and head of MEL from Agency for Peace Building (our partners in the Kujenga Amani project).

The workshop brought together representatives of the seven CSOs sub-granted under the Kujenga Amani project in Mombasa and Kwale counties.

During the session, participants reflected on the results and impact of the projects implemented over the past months. They discussed what worked well, what did not go as expected, and - most importantly- why.

This was a key moment in the closing phase of the project: an opportunity to monitor and evaluate the journey so far, while building greater awareness of both the achievements and the lessons learned. The discussion was rich, honest, and full of meaningful exchange.

Thank you, Agency for Peace Building for this valuable opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow together.

On 26 January, part of our team from CEFA - Kenya & Somalia and CEFA - Tanzania were on the ground and took part in the activities, as Pemba hosted a powerful photography exhibition created by young people involved in the Kujenga Amani Project in Mozambique.

📸 Through a participatory photography workshop, the young photographers explored local initiatives across the area, capturing their impact through images and personal stories. The project came to life in an exhibition held in a venue provided by the Municipality of Pemba, bringing together provincial authorities and local stakeholders to celebrate youth voices, creativity, and community change.

“Chill na Amani – Episode 2 ✨

In this episode, Jamii Action Centre - JAC shows how peacebuilding starts from listening to youth voices - especially around unemployment, one of the key drivers pushing young people into crime and violent extremism.

Through business mentoring, 6 youth groups were supported to turn ideas into action. 3 groups received grants, while the others continue their journey with ongoing support.

"Here, dreams don’t stay on paper; they become businesses, jobs, and hope for a better future."

🎥Huge thanks to Da Amina and Mealii Mbodze for making this vlog series so real and powerful

On the 13th of November, Smart Move Community hosted its first Legal Clinic, a truly significant milestone for the Kwale County community. For many residents, it was the first time they had the opportunity to be heard and to receive free legal guidance on land-related challenges — an issue that continues to shape daily life across Kenya, and especially within coastal regions.

Land ownership and tenure insecurity have long been deep-rooted challenges in the Coast: historical injustices, informal settlements, lack of proper documentation, and limited access to legal support have left many families vulnerable and without clarity about their rights.

Through the Kujenga Amani Project, we aim to restore peace, fairness, and transparency in the process of land regularization. Our work seeks to strengthen community understanding, build legal awareness, and support pathways toward secure land ownership.

With Smartmove, we began by conducting awareness sessions on land rights, documentation processes, and available legal remedies, creating the foundation for real, lasting change.
This Legal Clinic represents a concrete step toward ensuring that communities who have struggled for generations can finally access justice, recognition, and the security they deserve.
