From national commitments to local action: Mombasa County has begun the journey to localize Kenya’s National Action Plan (KNAP III) on Women, Peace & Security (WPS).

Through the IMARISHA Project, KECOSCE has commenced consultations with the Mombasa County Gender Sector Technical Working Group, bringing together the County Gender Department, State Department of Gender, CSOs, IPOA and KNCHR.

The process will translate KNAP III commitments into a practical, inclusive and locally owned County Action Plan, strengthening women’s meaningful participation and leadership in peace and security.

Through the IMARISHA Project, KECOSCE convened a productive engagement with the Gender Sector Working Group (GSWG) in Kwale County. The engagement strengthened coordination and collaboration among stakeholders, with key outcomes including the revitalization of the Working Group and KECOSCE’s leadership of the Peace and Security Thematic Group.

The thematic groups also identified priority activities for implementation during the October–December quarter and agreed on a structured schedule for quarterly engagements.

Stakeholders further agreed to undertake a comprehensive mapping of relevant actors across the county and invite them to the next GSWG meeting.

These engagements will continue to strengthen coordination, inclusive participation, and evidence-based programming on gender, peace and security in Kwale County.

In Kwale, the International Day of Peace commemoration took place at Kwale Cultural Centre in Kinarini Village, Matuga Sub-County a community grappling with challenges including insecurity, alcoholism, defilement, SGBV and child neglect. It was therefore a fitting space to have meaningful conversations on peace, safety and community responsibility.

Spearheaded by the DCC Matuga, the forum brought together State and non-state actors, women, youth, PWDs, elders and peace champions.

As a key stakeholder Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) through the IMARISHA Project continues to amplify women’s voices in peace and security by strengthening their participation in mediation, dialogue facilitation, peace committees, representation and leadership by recognizing women as critical actors in building lasting peace.

Peace is everyone’s responsibility and Women must be at the table: On 21 September 2026, KECOSCE commemorated the International Day of Peace across Kwale, Mombasa & Kilifi Counties, together with State & non-state actors, CSOs, community leaders and peace champions.

Through the IMARISHA Project supported by Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia through Act Change Transform we celebrated the leadership and voices of women as essential actors in peace and security. Together, we are strengthening women’s participation, building partnerships and investing in community-led peacebuilding.

On 21 September 2026, KECOSCE will join State and non-state actors in commemorating the International Day of Peace across the Coastal region, bringing communities, peace actors and stakeholders together to promote peace, dialogue, social cohesion and community safety.

Through the IMARISHA Project, KECOSCE is amplifying women’s leadership and meaningful participation in peace and security, strengthening collaboration between communities and security actors, and connecting trained women peace champions with sub-county security teams and other key stakeholders.
