TRIO NABBED WITH KES 1.7M FAKE CASH IN DIANI

A covert police operation in Diani has led to the arrest of three suspects involved in a counterfeiting ring that has been flooding Mombasa and nearby areas with fake cash.

The suspects, Fadhili Lawrence, Atemba Lawrence, and Electrine Okwako, were apprehended after police followed forensic leads to a secret hideout in Diani, where the illegal trade was reported to thrive.

Inside, detectives found KES 1.7 million in counterfeit money. The fake Sh1,000 notes were hidden in a laptop bag with a white ribbon labelled “CBK 1000,” a misleading detail meant to suggest authenticity.

Preliminary investigations show that the three suspects are key cogs in a broader criminal network believed to be distributing fake cash along the coast.

The three are currently in custody, being processed before their court appearance, as officers continue the search for other members of the syndicate who are still at large.

GIRLFRIEND NABBED AFTER ROBBING HER BRITON BOYFRIEND SH800,000 IN NYALI

Detectives in Nyali, Mombasa, have arrested a woman who staged a robbery against her British boyfriend, after luring him to her apartment for what was supposed to be a "dream date".

The suspect, Samira Mumbi Kiarie, aka Samira, had been wooing the Briton for months on the net, charming him with promises of everlasting love.

Blinded by affection, the man packed his confidence and visited her posh apartment in Nyali, oblivious that he was walking into a scripted heist.

Barely minutes into the rendezvous, the door burst open. Two men stormed in, one claiming to be Samira's furious husband; the other flashing a fake police ID.

The "husband" accused the Brit of wrecking his home, as the fake cop threatened arrest.

The terrified foreigner was then coerced into transferring a cool Sh800,000 to mobile phone numbers provided by the gang.

Once the cash landed, the trio calmly escorted their victim out before vanishing into Mombasa's humid night like ghosts after payday.

But the honeymoon didn't last. Acting on forensic intelligence, detectives launched a stealth pursuit, arresting Samira and one of her accomplices, Paul Webster Mangeni, aka Paulo.

Investigations have since established that the two are part of a notorious syndicate that lures foreigners through dating sites, sets them up in Airbnbs, and robbing them of their hard-earned money.

Both suspects are in police custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment, as the hunt intensifies for their partner-in-crime, who is still at large.

CLANDESTINE DRUG LAB UNCOVERED IN DIANI, KWALE COUNTY

What seemed like a peaceful corner of Kenya’s beautiful coastline turned out to be the unexpected site of a major drug bust. Detectives have uncovered a secret narcotics lab tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of Mwabungo village, Ukunda — a place more often associated with serene beaches than crime.

After days of discreet surveillance and intelligence gathering, a team from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and Kenya Police carried out a well-coordinated raid on a secluded one-acre compound. Hidden behind tall walls and a heavily guarded gate, the location turned out to be more than it appeared.

Inside, officers arrested two individuals: Gianardi Giulio, a 37-year-old Italian national, and Moses Nanoka Egadwa. The team recovered lab equipment and chemicals suspected to be used in the manufacture of drugs, as well as packaging materials clearly marked with names of known narcotics.

Further searches revealed sections of the compound being used to cultivate what is believed to be cannabis, adding to the growing list of evidence pointing to long-term illegal activity.

The suspects are now in custody and awaiting formal charges in court.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug networks and keeping Kenyan communities safe from the harmful effects of narcotics and the illegal drug trade.

LODGE DIRECTOR IN COURT OVER SH48.8M FAKE INVESTMENT SCHEME

George Maina Muriithi, the Director Mara Ndovu Lodge Limited, has been arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts, for defrauding an unsuspecting victim out of Sh48.8 million in a sham investment deal.

According to a report filed at Parklands Police Station, Muriithi approached the complainant in October 2022 with what appeared to be a lucrative investment opportunity.

He claimed to be selling 48,800 shares in Mara Ndovu Lodge Limited, each priced at Sh1,000, amounting to a total of Sh48.8 million.

Captivated by the prospect of this investment, the complainant deposited the sum as agreed but the suspect became elusive and never transferred the shares.

Taking up the matter, Parklands detectives initiated a thorough probe. They uncovered that on December 22, 2022, a formal share purchase agreement was drafted by Otieno & Ambrose Advocates on behalf of Muriithi. This agreement stipulated the sale of 48,800 ordinary shares at the agreed-upon price to the complainant.

The complainant deposited the agreed amount in two installments through Otieno & Ambrose Advocates, the suspect's lawyer. However, despite the complainant fulfilling his end of the deal, Muriithi failed to transfer the shares as per the agreement.

Appearing before the Milimani Law Courts, Muriithi pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Detectives opposed his bond application, citing concerns that the suspect may be a flight risk. As a result, the court ordered Muriithi to remain in custody at the Capitol Hill Police Station, awaiting a ruling on his bond application, which is scheduled for July 15, 2025.
