When you sit with your thoughts long enough, you start to understand a painful truth: hurt people rarely know how to give anything except the hurt they carry. Their tone, their reactions, their unnecessary chaos it all comes from wounds they’ve never addressed. Emotionally stable people don’t go around shaking other people’s peace; they protect energy, not destroy it.

So before you rush to match someone’s attitude, pause. Breathe. Look deeper. Their behaviour might have nothing to do with you. You might just be standing close to someone fighting battles you can’t see, bleeding from places they refuse to heal. And their attempt to destabilise you is not a reflection of your worth it’s a mirror of their own turmoil.

Remember this: it’s never who you are. It’s always who they are. And sometimes, choosing not to match the energy is the real form of wisdom and self respect.

Twice Failed: How the System Let Down Faridah Changawa

Faridah Kadzo Changawa’s life was already carrying more pain than any teenager should ever endure. At just 17, the soft spoken Form Three student had survived defilement in 2020 an ordeal that should have rallied every protective arm of the justice system around her. Instead, the young girl found herself navigating the aftermath largely on her own, her case crawling through the slow machinery of investigations and court processes.

Those who knew Faridah describe a bright girl who loved school, laughed easily, and tried to rebuild her confidence even as trauma shadowed her every step. Her family believed that with justice and support, she would one day reclaim the normal teenage life that had been violently interrupted.

But the same system that had delayed justice for her first ordeal would fail her again. In June 2024, Faridah was stabbed to death a brutal, senseless end that has left her family, teachers, and community in deep mourning. What makes her death even more unbearable is the haunting feeling that it did not have to happen. She should have been safe. She should have been protected. She should have been alive.

Her case now stands as a painful symbol of the gaps that continue to harm Kenyan children long after the headlines fade. When survivors report sexual violence, they need consistent follow up, trauma support, witness protection where necessary, and a justice system that moves with urgency. Faridah received only fragments of that.

Community leaders in Kilifi have called her killing a “double tragedy” first the assault, then the death both occurring within a system meant to shield the young from predators. Human rights groups are now demanding a full audit of why her initial case stalled, what protective measures failed, and how many other children are quietly slipping through the same cracks.

Faridah’s story is not just a crime report. It is a reminder that every delayed file, every postponed hearing, every unprotected survivor has a name, a face, a family, and dreams. Her death leaves the country with a question it cannot afford to ignore: How many more young girls must be failed twice before the system learns to protect them the first time?

Her family now mourns a daughter whose courage was greater than the support she received. Her community mourns a young life that should have blossomed. And Kenya is left confronting a harsh truth justice delayed is not only justice denied. Sometimes, as in Faridah’s case, it is also a life cut short.

Faridah deserves more than memories. She deserves a system that learns from her tragedy and finally puts the safety of children where it belongs at the very centre.

I believed I could achieve anything I set my mind to, and I did it.This journey wasn't always easy; there were moments of doubt and fear, but I persevered through the challenges. It’s important to foster mental health and believe in your own strength. Knowing that you can overcome difficult situations brings a profound sense of peace and relief 🕊. Remember that trust in yourself is crucial, and seeking help when needed is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's continue to advocate for respect and support for one another as we navigate life's complexities.

🕊️ Peace Restoration Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts burdened by conflict and unrest.
Where there has been anger, bring calm.
Where there has been pain, bring healing.
Where there has been division, bring unity.

Lord, restore peace within our hearts, our homes, and our land.
Teach us to forgive as You have forgiven us.
Let understanding replace judgment, and compassion replace fear.

May Your Spirit move through every broken place,
renewing hope and rebuilding love.
Surround us with Your divine light,
and let Your peace reign deep, lasting, and unshakable.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

A Heartbreaking Case!

This Wednesday, I happened to be at one Law Courts in kenya. We are living in a time where anyone can easily find themselves before the courts, whether as a witness, accused, complainant, or for other reasons.

Among the cases mentioned that day, there is this one that has stayed with me and weighed heavily on my heart. It involved an 8-year-old girl, whom I will call X and it highlighted the painful reality of how vulnerable children can be when those entrusted to protect them fail.

X’s mother had traveled to Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures to provide a better future for her children. She entrusted the care of X and her brother to their grandmother a decision that is not unusual, as many single mothers rely on extended family for support. Having been raised by my own grandmother, I understand both the sacrifices and challenges such arrangements carry.

However, after their mother’s departure, the children began crying every night. Concerned neighbors, noticing the persistent distress, asked the grandmother about it. Her response was that the children had been inconsolable since their mother left. When the children themselves were approached, they revealed something more alarming that they were often not being fed.

A call was placed to their mother abroad, who expressed shock and disbelief upon hearing that her children were hungry and crying regularly. Despite her concern, the nightly cries continued until the neighbors, out of compassion, involved the local chief. Given the rural setting, the chief initially handled the matter before escalating it to the police.

What followed was an investigation that revealed a truth too painful to imagine .The grandmother would wake the children at night, order X to remove all her clothes, and proceed to touch her inappropriately:the very person entrusted to protect and nurture, was sexually abusing X. This betrayal of trust was so deep that even during baths, the young girl would scream likely due to pain or irritation caused by the assaults. her little body carrying pain she should never have known.

The grandmother, in her defense, admitted to waking the children at night but claimed it was merely to take them to the washroom. However, the investigating officer pointed out that this explanation could not account for the constant crying every night.

This case is deeply disturbing, not only because it highlights the betrayal of trust by a caregiver, but also because it shows the vulnerability of children when their protectors are absent. What should have been a safe refuge became a place of trauma for X.

I left the courtroom heavy-hearted, determined to follow this case closely. My hope is that justice will prevail and that this young girl will one day find healing after such a painful betrayal.

For a young woman in rural Kenya, a package of sanitary towels represents more than just a monthly requirement; it signifies dignity, self-assurance, and the ability to attend school without apprehension or embarrassment. The lack of access to this fundamental necessity often results in missed classes, academic setbacks, and, in some cases, school abandonment. Supplying sanitary towels is not merely addressing a physical need; it is an investment in her education, self-worth, and future prospects.

She is brought into a world that frequently imposes limitations upon her even before she can express herself.
She is informed of what she is unable to do before she discovers her capabilities.
Frequently, her aspirations are suppressed, not due to their insignificance, but because society is apprehensive of their influence.

She confronts:

Early Marriage – depriving her of her childhood and educational opportunities.

Gender Discrimination – being disregarded simply because she is a girl.

Abuse & Exploitation – encountering peril where she should find safety.

Limited Education – her potential being constrained behind inaccessible school doors.

Poor Healthcare Access – her requirements frequently being overlooked or given insufficient priority.

Despite all these challenges, she perseveres.
She dreams, she triumphs, she acquires knowledge, and she guides others.
