My message on this day is, let us all build on girls’ resilience. Let us invest in girls’ potential. Let us empower girls to take advantage of the opportunity this digital generation provides. And let us protect girls from the inequality, violence and harmful practices risking their future, and our future.

It’s no wonder many introverts silence their phones or leave them permanently on Do Not Disturb mode.

I was incredibly lucky to grow up with family members who share my aversion to unexpected phone calls.

“Let’s schedule a time to talk,” my father would tell me over text or verbally , and I would sigh with relief. This way, I could look forward to talking with my dad but also avoid the dread that always comes with the surprise of a ringing phone.

While it’s no secret that 99.9 percent of introverts really dislike the phone, there’s more to it than awkward phone calls. While I am grateful for video calls and technology that have acted like a portal to the outside world during the pandemic, there are still several reasons why my phone will never replace a friendship.

1. It’s like being constantly interrupted.

2. They give you no time to think in advance which introverts prefer.

3. They make you miss out on important visual cues and facial expressions.

4. They take a distracting toll on your precious, limited energy.

5. Others expect you to be available 24/7.

6. They cause social media overload, which causes you to feel lonely even in a crowded room.

If I could open up about the things I struggle with as an introvert — and the things I’m working on — here’s what I’d say.

Throughout my 20 plus years of living on this earth, I’ve faced many obstacles and put up with way more than I could handle as an introvert. I’ve grown so much as a person, but to this day, there are still bumps along the road. Thankfully, what I’ve learned from the past has helped prepare me for new problems that occur.

We all have a story — or multiple stories — to tell, and we all have reactions to experiences that help make us who we are. Obviously, people you meet for the first time are not going to understand why you’re the quietest one in your friend group, why you decline to go out on a Saturday night, or why you only feel comfortable texting one or two people out of the 20+ that you know.

Even people you have known for a long time may not understand the “why” behind these habits; introverts are not usually open books, and personally, I follow the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Do They Bring Out The Best In You?

Have you ever felt disrespected by someone and what’s worst is to see the same person being manipulative trying to cover for the damage already done, like nothing happened?

Have you ever been in a situation where if it’s not their way there will never be a way and that’s final? It’s baffling.

Have you ever been told how unloving you are because of an incident? Every good deed you’ve done goes unrecognized? Wait , where is the lie??

Has someone ever hanged up the phone on you while you’re crying your heart out? How did it feel?

Have you ever sat and listened to someone trying to switch a situation or your words so that you look like the bad , unsupportive person and your reasoning feels like an excuse to them? Made you take a backseat, made you feel dumb and stupid yeah?

Have you ever questioned yourself why you even started a conversation that you thought was an open one that ended up taking a different direction? And it’s all on you?

In all this have you ever chosen to keep quiet then you end up being told you are disrespectful?

Have you ever slept with a broken heart and woke up more broken? Have you cried yourself to sleep, woke up with swollen eyes and had to go through the hurt another day? How did it feel?

I read somewhere people who overthink, tend to overlove and that hit me differently.

Being nice can cost you, what have you been learning? But sometimes you need your feelings hurt so you can wake up and focus on you.

Have you ever spoken your mind and you were shut down or told that you like to argue or you talk too much? Oh, that’s another way of being told Shut up!

Eventually, you’re narrowed down to a box. You’re left saying yes to everything so you can have a peace of mind. Well, that’s a dangerous place to be at but again most of us feel like after you’ve given it your best shot all you can do is take a day at a time. Feed your soul with what gives it light. But, till when?

What is the limit? Where or when does it stop?

Sending love and light to everyone who feels like this. Cry if it will make you feel better, sometimes the only person we have close to us is ourselves . ❤️❤️

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 🤗💗

A lot of studies have shown that self-love is the key to mental wellbeing and it keeps depression and anxiety at bay.

Self-love is not being selfish; it is just putting yourself first and not being too tough on yourself. So next time you hear that little voice in your head telling you that you are not good enough or that you cannot afford to make mistakes; just ignore it.

The first step of self-love is realising that we are only human and it is okay to make mistakes; it is okay to lose at times; it is okay to not have the best day…week…or month.

Learning to love yourself also reduces stress, lessens procrastination and makes you more focused at work.

Self-love is the key to happiness and a person who is happy is in a far better position to achieve success in every aspect of life.
