We held a powerful climate literacy training in Nairobi with LBQ and non-binary individuals from informal settlements, and it was truly impactful.

We unpacked the climate crisis in ways that connect to our everyday lives. Participants shared personal experiences from recent floods, spoke about loss, resilience, and survival, and reminded us why these conversations matter.

Participants came up with practical and grounded ideas on how we can better prepare, respond, and ensure that vulnerable qu**rs are not left behind during climate crises.

We remain committed to turning these ideas into action and building resilient, informed communities.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who showed up, shared, and held space with us. 💜

Special thanks to Womankind Worldwide for supporting this important work, and to Nawiri Dadas Organization for partnering with us 👏🏾💜

🌍 World Meteorological Day 2026

Today, we recognize the critical role of weather and climate information in protecting lives, strengthening resilience, and guiding our collective future.

Across Kenya and many parts of the world, we are witnessing the growing impacts of the climate crisis, from floods and displacement to loss of livelihoods and lives. These realities remind us that early warning systems, climate data, and timely information are lifelines.

On this World Meteorological Day, we call for:

🌍Inclusive and accessible early warning systems that reach everyone
🌈Climate information that centers the most vulnerable communities
🌍People-centered responses that prioritize care, dignity, and safety

Because climate information must not only predict the weather, it must also protect every life.

Climate justice means ensuring that no one is left behind.

🚨⚠️ ICA Foundation Kenya is deeply concerned by the worsening flood situation across the country.

Recent reports indicate that:

Over 68,000 families have been displaced
At least 83 lives have been lost
A landslide in Baringo has claimed additional lives

In Nairobi, the situation remains critical. The Water Resources Authority has advised residents living downstream of Nairobi Dam, including:

⚠️Kibera, South C, parts of Highrise, Mbagathi Way, and Lang’ata to evacuate immediately due to the risk of the dam overflowing or bursting.

At the same time, the Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall (above 20mm) will continue across the country until Tuesday, with particularly high risk in flood-prone areas.

⚠️ This means the risk of:

Flooding
Displacement
Landslides
Loss of lives and property remains extremely high.

We urge everyone, especially q***r individuals and marginalized communities, to:

⚠️Take evacuation advisories seriously
⚠️Move to safer areas where necessary
⚠️Stay alert and monitor updates

📢 Please share this message widely. This is a critical moment for community awareness and collective safety.

In solidarity,
ICA Foundation Kenya.
