To everyone who showed up for Play As You Are, thank you.

This was a one of a kind moment, our Intersex, Transgender, and Gender Non-Conforming (ITGNC) community gathered together in rural Kenya, some meeting each other for the very first time. Chess boards, Scrabble tiles, laughter, and a whole day of simply being ourselves.

Look at these smiles. This is what happiness looks like when a community finally gets a day that is truly theirs.

Moments like this remind us why Shared Lives Group exists.

Shared Lives Group is currently hosting Play As You Are, a day of chess, Scrabble, and connection for our Intersex, Transgender, and Gender Non-Conforming community.

In rural Kenya, spaces where Intersex, Transgender, and Gender Non-Conforming people can simply exist without fear are hard to come by.

Day 3 at the Artivist Shield Academy – Kenya 2026

We sat in the room as Hon. Fikirini Jacobs, Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, spoke with young artivists about the creative economy, opportunity and building something sustainable.

For us, running community work in rural Kenya, it was a reminder that advocacy doesn't only happen in policy rooms. It happens through art, conversation and showing up where people are.

Grateful to have been part of this.

Play As You Are is 5 days away.

On Saturday 26 September, Shared Lives Group is hosting a day of chess and Scrabble for our intersex, trans and gender non conforming (ITGNC) community in rural Kenya.
It's a relaxed day, not a competition. Beginners are welcome, and there is no pressure. Just good games and good company.

As a trans led organisation, we know Trans support begins when people feel safe enough to show up as themselves. Moments like this build trust, friendship and wellbeing, and they are a big part of how we keep our community strong.
