As we step into into the new year, weβd like to start by sharing an uplifting story from Vijiweni Primary School in Mombasa, hashtag , where students are turning their schools into hubs of environmental action and climate resilience.
With support from the youth organisation Likoni Community Development Program (LICODEP) LIKONI, schools participating in Schools2030 are reactivating environmental clubs where students are learning how to grow food, care for plants, and respond to the effects of climate change.
From planting trees and vegetables, to protecting crops without pesticides, these young eco-warriors are building practical skills in sustainable agriculture, including both traditional and container farming.
Students are also taking this knowledge home and sharing it with their families and communities: a powerful example of how youth leadership can be harnessed to drive climate resilience on a broader scale. These school gardens are not only a source of learning but also of food, income, and self-reliance.
