Three years. Two counties. Countless stories of change. 💙✨

As the , supported by Uraia through the Norwegian Embassy in Kenya, comes to an end after three impactful years of implementation in and Lamu Counties, MWARP conducted an Outcome Harvesting exercise to reflect on the the project has contributed to in .

And the stories are worth celebrating! 🎉

From safer healthcare services in Garissa and Lamu, to improved access to water; from efforts to bridge the digital divide to economic empowerment, communities are sharing that demonstrate how collective action can translate into meaningful change.

Today, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection was thrilled to host key state and non-state stakeholders at Prideinn Diani for the FY26/27 Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Project Inception Forum, implemented under our partnership with Plan International Kenya

This forum marks an exciting new chapter as officially takes over as the lead implementing partner for activities across Kwale County!

Yesterday, a joint team from Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection - MWARP and Plan International Kenya [Kwale Program Unit] paid a courtesy call to the office of the Kwale County Commissioner.

The purpose of the visit was to brief the County Commissioner who co-chairs the County Steering Group with Her Excellency the Governor on the implementation of two new projects will be rolling out in the County: the Project, in partnership with Plan International, and the Project, in partnership with and CEFA - Kenya & Somalia

During the meeting, we highlighted our areas of strength, areas where we will require administration support, and opportunities for complementarity with existing county initiatives.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the County Commissioner granting his blessing and the green light to proceed with implementation. Both parties agreed to maintain regular check-ins as implementation progresses.

🚀 Empowering Communities to Shape Better Governance!

Knowledge is power, and when communities understand how governance works, they can drive meaningful change.

On 23rd and 24th July 2026, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection (MWARP) participated in a a two-day capacity-building workshop on the County Budget-Making Process, Public Participation, Social Accountability, and the Access to Information Act, 2016.

The workshop was organized by Kwetu Centre for Sustainable Development under the , bringing together -led organizations, -led organizations, representatives, budget , and stakeholders to strengthen their capacity for active civic engagement.

Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored community , identified , and gained valuable skills to effectively engage in processes and for , , and improved delivery.

Together, we are nurturing informed, confident, and active citizens who are ready to influence decisions that shape their communities.

🌍 Changing Mindsets, One Conversation at a Time

Yesterday, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection (MWARP), through the Scaling Care Innovation Project funded by AKU Institute for Human Development, convened a in Amu Town that brought together religious leaders and Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers to advance conversations on reducing care work.

The dialogue highlighted how caregiving responsibilities continue to impact , , and , while exploring practical ways to promote caregiving responsibilities within .

🕌 Religious leaders committed to using sermons, mosque teachings, and other faith-based gatherings to encourage to actively participate in and responsibilities.

🎒 ECD teachers pledged to reinforce these messages through engagement sessions and activities, emphasizing that shared caregiving contributes to better development, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Together, participants reaffirmed their commitment to transforming by recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care work, paving the way for more equitable, resilient, and caring communities.

🌍 Faith Leaders Rise to Champion Shared Care! 🤝🏽💙

Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection (MWARP) convened a powerful with religious leaders from Matondoni and Kipungani villages under the Scaling Care Innovation Project, funded by AKU Institute for Human Development.

The dialogue highlighted the vital role of leaders in promoting the reduction of care work by encouraging to actively participate in and responsibilities. Through faith-based teachings, sermons, and community engagements, religious leaders have the power to challenge social norms and inspire to embrace responsibility.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to use their platforms to:
✅ Promote shared caregiving responsibilities.
✅ Encourage men to value and support women's unpaid care work.

🌊 Riding the Waves of Change: Lamu Community Reflect on Three Years of Transformative Governance Through RITAI 🌊

Like the tides that shape our coastline, lasting change is built through consistent action, unity, and resilience. On 13th and 14th July 2026, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection sailed into the final chapter of the by convening End-of-Project Stakeholder Reflection Meetings in Mpeketoni and Mkomani, bringing together committee members, community champions, and duty bearers who have steered this transformative journey over the past three years.

The meetings created a meaningful space for to cast their nets of , on the project's , learned, encountered, and for the future. Community champions and committee members shared inspiring stories of transformation, explaining how the education and awareness provided by MWARP empowered them to become advocates for within their own communities. Armed with knowledge and confidence, they continue to spread awareness, encourage civic , and champion among fellow community members.

Duty bearers also reflected on the remarkable shift witnessed among young people throughout the project. They noted that the RITAI initiative inspired to actively monitor development projects, engage constructively with public institutions, and demand and . Through collective advocacy and community lobbying, several stalled development projects were revived, demonstrating the power of informed and organized citizens.

Like fishermen proudly showcasing a successful catch after seasons of patience, stakeholders highlighted tangible achievements made possible through collective action. The team visited sites where had contributed to the construction and rehabilitation of , installation of an incinerator at the local hospital, the ongoing construction of the cotton ginnery, the renovation of , and several other community development initiatives.

These visits served as powerful reminders that when communities are equipped with knowledge, united by purpose, and work hand in hand with duty bearers, lasting change takes root, just as the mighty baobab grows from a single seed along our beautiful Coast.

🌊 As the RITAI journey reaches its shore, the waves of empowerment it created will continue to ripple across our communities, inspiring greater civic participation, stronger accountability, and inclusive governance for generations to come.
