Sukuma Twende Trust started as an informal group of friends calling themselves “Sukuma Twende” organizing events with the main focus on their four pillars: sports, education, welfare and environmental conservation.

In Kyakathule, Machakos, another Sand dam handover has been done on Sunday 24th May!

This particular sand dam holds approximately 15,000,000 litres of water.

Before this dam was constructed, the women in the area had to walk long distances in order to gain access to clean water that they could use for drinking & bathing. This sand dam will now benefit the local community of over 3000 people.
We are proud to note that the girls will now have ample time to attend school, and wonderfully, the water within the dam will serve the community well till the next rainy season

We are so excited to launch another school library!
We formally opened the Utumishi School Library on 29th May 2026 with our members and generous donors.

So far, Sukuma Twende Trust, in partnership, has opened up over 35 libraries and donated over 10,000 books to help enhance literacy in various places around the Nation. We strongly believe that enhancing literacy will help the children of our future gain valuable skills that will make them prominent members of society

Calling all Earth Warriors! Your environmental activism is needed now, more than ever.

1. Educate yourself & others about pressing issues affecting our planet. Read articles, books and watch environmental documentaries; and talk to people who are knowledgeable about the topic.
Once you have a good understanding of the issues, you can start educating others.
1. Take action! Organise workshops, attend gatherings & join groups that are working towards a good cause.
2. Find your niche! Everyone is passionate about different things regarding the environment. It could be about planting indigenous trees, harvesting rain water, helping our corals regenerate or pollution & climate change. Whatever area draws you in, go into it with your whole heart & work towards it.
3. Never give up - our planet needs your advocacy to survive

History Made: Truphena Muthoni Does It Again! 🥉🌳

Talk about a tree-mendous achievement! Kenya’s very own Truphena Muthoni has officially secured her 3rd Guinness World Record, cementing her status as the ultimate environmental champion.

We heard all about it when we met her for a breakfast celebration & we hope to collaborate with her soon.

Her incredible journey to the record books is nothing short of inspiring:

Record #1: Hugging a single tree for 48 hours straight. ⏱️

Record #2: Breaking her own record by hugging a tree for 72 hours. 💪

Record #3 (The Latest!): Hugging a staggering 1,234 trees in just one hour over in Brazil! 🇧🇷✈️

From endurance marathons to lightning-fast speed runs, Truphena is showing the world what passion and dedication look like—all while spreading a beautiful message about loving and protecting our planet. 🌍💚

This Earth Day, we would like to highlight our ongoing environmental project: planting trees on Mount Kenya (in their designated areas).

Through 7 years of active restoration, we have planed 448,486 indigenous trees that have high rates of survival.

Sukuma Twende has been in existence for 25 years. A group of friends came together, with a shared mission to impact the world positively.
Now, 25 years later, a fully fledged, registered Trust, Sukuma Twende Trust still operates from a place of selfless love for our Nation.
