A Heartfelt Farewell, A Lasting Impact – Njenge Initiative ✨

Last Friday, we gathered at Mpuri Junior and Pry School for the official handover of the Njenge Initiative, a transformative project by the Rotaract Club of Mount Kenya Meru. From mentoring and tree planting to beautifying learning spaces through wall painting, this initiative was a labor of love, service, and hope.

We were honored to be joined by Rtn. Prof. Omamo, who delivered an inspiring message to the students—one that will linger long after the event.

In his empowering address, Professor Omamo shared the four principles for doing good and being successful:
🌟 Focus – Direct your energy where it matters.
🌟 Believe – Trust in your potential and purpose.
🌟 Balance – Maintain harmony in all areas of life.
🌟 Courage – Be bold in the face of uncertainty.

He further encouraged the students to live by the Rotary 4-Way Test, a timeless guide for ethical living:
Of the things we think, say, or do:
1️⃣ Is it the truth?
2️⃣ Is it fair to all concerned?
3️⃣ Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4️⃣ Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

These words stirred something deep—not just in the students, but in all of us present.

As we concluded this phase of the Njenge Initiative, there was a shared sense of pride, joy, and commitment to doing more for our communities. The smiles were genuine, the gratitude palpable, and the spirit of Rotary alive in every detail.

This isn’t just a goodbye. It’s a beginning—of greater impact, stronger partnerships, and hearts forever connected.

To everyone who made this day possible: Asanteni sana. 🌿💚

In January & February 2025, The Rotaract Club of Mt. Kenya Meru has been actively involved in student's mentorship. The main focus being mental health. A team of very dedicated Rotaractors, visited three schools and shared with students great insights bout this very sensitive yet very important topic. Each day, our main goal is to create lasting impact in our community & we're doing so by mentoring this very important lot in our community - the students.

We all are welcome to be part of the impact catalyst.

In the heart of Meru, Kenya, where the future takes root in young minds and fertile soil, the Rotaract Club of Mt. Kenya Meru has launched their "Nijenge Initiative." This signature project for 2024/25 stands at the intersection of education and environmental conservation, weaving together the needs of the present with vision for the future.

Working with Equity Bank Kenya Meru, Meru University of Science and Technology, and four public schools, the initiative has already exceeded its initial goal of planting 20 fruit trees per school. These trees now flourish at Mpuri Primary, Irinda Primary, DEB Township Primary, and Mwiteria Mixed Day Secondary, marking just the beginning of a broader transformation.

As schools reopen, a multifaceted mentorship program will begin, addressing crucial areas including farming, mental health, adolescent counseling, hygiene, career guidance, and evenart, music, and film. Through these sessions, students will gain vital life skills and knowledge that shape healthier choices and brighter futures.

Physical improvements are also planned, with each school set to receive at least 10 desks or undergo classroom painting. But Nijenge's vision reaches further - it aims to establish Interact clubs, creating a sustainable framework for continued student engagement and leadership development.

The initiative's desired outcomes are clear: enhancing the region's ecological system, raising awareness about climate change, improving student lifestyle choices, and creating more conducive learning environments. With support from Friends of Rotaract and the commitment of partners, the project is set to make lasting change.

The current leadership is so committed to this vision that the President-Elect has pledged to continue the initiative into the next Rotary year - ensuring that what they plant today, whether trees or ideas, will grow to full potential.
