Celebrating 60 Years of Impact at Ngare Ndare Forest!

In honor of Central Bank of Kenya’s (CBK) 60th anniversary, the dedicated teams from the CBK Meru and Nyeri branches came together last weekend for a memorable day of celebration and conservation at Ngare Ndare Forest. From walking the iconic canopy walk to connecting with nature and supporting local conservation efforts, this milestone event highlighted our shared commitment to community, sustainability, and protecting Kenya's rich natural heritage.

Ngare Ndare Forest Trust achieved a major milestone on Friday 7th August 2026 after it was formally accepted into the Association of Private and Community Land Rhino Sanctuaries (APLRS).
As we all know, the Ngare Ndare Forest is home to more than 40 black rhinos and lately, some white rhinos have moved in. Joining this association gives NNFT a larger national forum to engage on matters related to rhino protection and an opportunity to attract support for rhino conservation.

A young Klaas's Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx klaas)
Unlike the striking glossy green males or bronze females, juvenile Klaas's Cuckoos feature muted, brownish-green upperparts and subtle barring across their chest. Being brood parasites, these young birds are raised by host species (often warblers, flycatchers, or sunbirds) before growing into their vibrant adult colors.

Did You Know?
A giraffe's tongue is typically black, dark blue, or purple toward the front, fading to pink closer to the back near its throat?. The main reason is for Natural UV / Sun Protection cause of high centration of melanin. Giraffes spend up to 12 hours a day extending their prehensile tongues out of their mouths to strip leaves off tall trees like acacias. The dense dark pigment acts as a natural sunblock to prevent sunburn, cracking, and tissue damage from intense African UV rays.
