CIFORD Kenya Community Initiatives for Rural Development (CIFORD Kenya) is a community based organization working in Meru North District of Eastern Province, Kenya.

CIFORD Kenya empowers rural communities through sustainable agriculture, women’s empowerment, youth programs, and community health, fostering resilience and self-reliance. The organization was formed in July 2002 and registered with the Ministry of Sports, Gender and Social Services. The community-based organization was formed to tackle socio-economic problems facing the residents of Meru North Di

strict and more so the issues affecting women and children. The organizations main focus is in areas of community capacity building, sustainable agriculture, and community health with emphasis on formation of new, safe, empowering coming-of-age rituals which place strong emphasis on girls staying in school rather than early marriage.

At our office demonstration farm, we conducted a practical session on compost manure making, showcasing how farmers can transform locally available organic materials into valuable nutrients for their crops. Compost manure is a sustainable and cost-effective way to improve soil fertility, increase water retention, enhance crop yields, and reduce dependence on expensive chemical fertilizers. By utilizing farm waste, kitchen leftovers, and other organic materials, farmers can build healthier soils while protecting the environment. As CIFORD Kenya lead by example, we encourage our farmers and communities to embrace composting as a simple yet powerful practice that promotes food security, sustainable agriculture, and improved livelihoods.

Women from Neema Kanjoka Group and Baraka Widows Group in Kiirua Naari, Buuri Sub-County, Meru County, came together for a practical training on soil health and soil fertility management. During the practical session, they learned how to prepare and use liquid manure, gaining hands-on skills that can be easily applied on their farms to improve soil fertility and crop production.The training equipped the women with sustainable farming practices that help reduce production costs, improve soil productivity, and increase crop yields while protecting the environment.

The field officers embark on training on agricultural techniques, water, sanitation and hygiene mental health, financial literacy, child nutrition and care, family planning, and SRHR.
