Meru Regional Chess Championship 2026 (KISCC Meru Regional Qualifiers)

The Meru Regional Chess Championship 2026 (KISCC Meru Regional Qualifiers) was successfully held on 4th July 2026 at Meru School, bringing together the region's finest young chess talent in a highly competitive and well-organized tournament.

Organized by the Meru County Chess Association, the championship attracted 170 players from nearly 20 schools, clubs, and institutions across the region. The tournament was conducted using the Swiss System with a 25-minute time control, in full compliance with FIDE Laws of Chess, ensuring fair play, professionalism, and a high standard of competition.

The championship showcased remarkable skill, discipline, and sportsmanship as players competed fiercely for qualification to the national stage. Following the tournament regulations, all participants who scored 2.0 points and above earned qualification to the Kenya National Chess Championships, scheduled to take place from 2nd to 6th August 2026. The official venue for the national championship will be communicated by the organizers.

Beyond determining regional qualifiers, the event reaffirmed the continued growth of chess in Meru County, highlighting the dedication of players, coaches, teachers, parents, and officials in nurturing talent.

♟️ The Meru County Chess Championship was successfully held at KEMU University.

Organized by the Meru County Chess Association in partnership with Andorian Sports Limited, the event brought together chess players from across the county for a memorable day of competition, learning, and sportsmanship.

The Meru Regional Chess Qualifiers were successfully held yesterday at Kaaga Girls Senior School, bringing together over 100 players from more than 9 schools and chess clubs. The tournament showcased great skill, strategic prowess, and mastery on the chessboard, highlighting the growing strength of chess in the region.

The winners from this event will proceed to the national championships at Mang'u High School, scheduled from 1st to 5th April.

The event was honored by the presence of Hon Caleb Kibuko our area member of county assembly and the Meru County CEC for Sports and Youth Affairs, Elias Murega Julius Page who reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting mind sports such as chess and ensuring their positive impact on youth and the community.

The successful tournament reflects the continued growth of chess in Meru under the Meru County Chess Association. ♟️
